COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Baltus, a hybrid style, is a top-fermented beer made with English floor malts, malted wheat and noble hops. A classic European yeast strain with a subtle yet discernable estery profile is employed. A warmer fermentation, followed by a period of cold conditioning serves to develop and refine this complex beer.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), with notes of raisin and brown sugar. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Seems to be more of a English Strong Ale, but it’s nicely fruity and well balanced. Good stuff.

12oz bottle pours a murky, caramel amber with some spitty head. Nose is heavy with port wine, sherry, wood, caramel, brown sugar, coconut. Flavor is sweet, apples, watery caramel flavoring, sherry, port, brandy, light wood, some orange. Medium bodied, watery finish. Well past it’s prime, but a unique beer at this point.

Thanks riversideAK! Dry nose of old grain, little oxidized. Old bottle. Black bread, milky caramel. Little poopy, some pine.

Musty oxidized aroma. Cardboard honey light yeast ester. Hazy orange amber no head or lace. Musty oxidized honey brown bread ane touch of yeast esters. Fairly oxidized ... but for a 10 year old screw top beer it could have been worse.

12 oz. Screwtop. Thanks ak! This beer is basically done at this point.vpours a murky toffee colored medium brown. No head or lace. Faint salty caramel nose. Watery still body. Caramel and cardboard mid palate. Tawny port. Mild finish.

2005 bottle at a Max tasting. Pours a muddy tan. Aroma is sulfitic with notes of stinky feet. Flavor has lots of acetaldehyde, toffee, and sulfur (burnt rubber). A touch of caramel in the finish dominated by prominent cardboard and burnt rubber. This is no longer good, to the point that it’s hard to tell if it was ever good at all.

Bottle at Max’s impromptu tasting. Pours slightly hazywitha thin white head. Vinous and old malt sweet oxidization. Very light carbonation. Big oxidization turning into old bitterness. Old oxidization finishes it up.

Super Bier! Vielen Dank an DerDoppelbock für die Ermöglichung des Tests! 10/13/11/14/12/13

The last of the Pepsican love flight DSM 2010! Pours a deep red with a small head and some lace. The aroma has some sherry and clear oxidation with some brandy booziness some fruity notes and some caramel. The flavor is mildly funky and plenty fruity with nutty and chocolate notes and plenty of sherry oxidation. Nothing overly unpleasant here but this tastes indeed like an old beer drank em’ if you got em’.

Nice milky, slightly nutty chocolate in the finish. Flavor was more oxidized than the aroma suggested. The sherry isn’t all that bad, kinda works with the caramel, but not really. Cherry.
