Ungstrup (11713), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 6, 2004 An unclear red beer with a small disappearing orange head. The aroma is of smoke, wood, peat, and rope - a great aroma. The flavor is very dry and yet sweet with notes of smoke, rope, peat, and hints of lemon. The alcohol runs over the tongue. Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Feb 1, 2003 Amber w/ slight haze. Fresh Vienna (actually it's actually Munich but I guess he went easy on it) malt & beech smoke aroma. Drips with smoke, some woody notes...caramel & vienna malts (which I suppose put together does sort of equal Munich - I should have put that together). Dry finish. Moderately sweet middle (hops add earthy context but little bitterness). Hints of alcohol in the finish. kp (6300), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 04/10/2004
opaque rusty orange, big frothy head (may have poured too fast), light sweet smoke aroma, nice sweet malt flavor, well balanced smoke character leading to a pleasant bitter finish
argo0 (6289), Washington DC, USA Apr 25, 2004 99.9% off-white foam on the pour, but eventually it recedes enough to yield a clear golden-orange body. Aroma is mild sweet, orange, medium smoke. At first, taste is medium sweet, orange, very mild smoke at the finish. As it warms, smoke becomes much more pronounced, and caramel also appears. Medium body that hides the alcohol well. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 6, 2004 Cloudy orange. Huge head formation makes pouring hard. Gigantic sized off-white head, all the bubbles are perfectly shaped and identical. Gentle malt aroma, smoky, woody, soapy. Juicy peach and orange flavors fit a well defined candyish? wood character. 7% you’ve got to be kidding.. This could easily be from Bamberg. Great balance. Medium body, perhaps a bit too effervescent. Quite dry in the finish, lightly bitter in a mineralic kind of way that seems to be closing to something metallic when cold. Let it warm to take advantage of a broader aromas range.
