Sick_boy282 (1080), San Diego, California, USA Jun 22, 2007 Pours a cloudy amber hue with a light white head. Aromas of smoked salmon, wood, and a hint of citrus. Mouthfeels is mdeium bodied with flavors of smoke, some more smoke, a mellow caramel, and a clean finish. While I may not be a smoked beer fan, I will rate accordingly.
JMFG (1173), Florida, USA Sep 27, 2008 Courtesy SoLan. Slightly cloudy copper color with orange hues. Lightly smoky grainy aroma, background sweetness. Sweetness less forward on the taste, mild smoke, clean finish. Not bad. Beerlando (1352), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2008 Courtesy SoLan. Pours a hazy burnt orange color wit a small, frothy, cream colored head. Soapy micro-spots of lacing mark the glass. The aroma shows notes of smoky malts, toasty bread, caramel malts, and hints of earthy, smoked spices and aged hops. Flavors show more of those robust, smoky malts and toasted biscuit, a slight caramel sweetness lending balance to the earthy, savory notes. Medium-plus bodied and lightly carbonated, the mouthfeel is what I would expect at this age. I can’t believe how well this brew has held up over time. This must have been a homerun when fresh, because it’s still pretty damn solid right now. iowaherkeye (1413), relocated to Santa Rosa f/Iowa, California, USA Apr 24, 2008 12oz bottle, no date from BrianK. Hazy caramel orange with a small yellow beige head, fading to a ring before long. Aroma is of course smoky, but in this case it is smoked meat--beef jerky, to be specific. Cherry tang and soda crackers are also present. Flavor is a little less smoky, but that’s not to say it isn’t still pretty smoky--er, jerkyish. Still has the cherry tang and salty soda crackers. Semi-dry finish with minimal bitterness--no trace of alcohol, but there is some oxidation, as one would expect for a beer a few years old. Burped stale crackers. Moderate prickly carbonation with a medium body. Pretty tasty brew, though I am partial to smoked beers. shigadeyo (1399), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Feb 19, 2008 2/19/2008: Heavyweight Cinderbock Lager Beer pours a cloudy golden brown color with a quickly dissipating fizzy beige head. It’s nice to see that there is still a mild to moderate level of carbonation. The aroma is smoky (dry, slightly meaty), dry (slight oxidation), and some fruity maltiness. The flavor is much the same, but more smoky with some alcohol coming through in the finish. I really like the smokiness in the front with the strong alcohol and fruity maltiness in the backend. This beer has a medium body and is quite easy to drink. The alcohol seems higher than 7% ABV, but it is well-balanced with the other flavors and provides a pretty nice warming effect. This is a solid bock and a solid smoked beer. It is quite tasty and different than expected. I bet it was even better when it was fresh. It’s sad that this brewery is no longer around. They clearly made great beer!
12 fl. oz. twist-off bottle from jjpm74. Thank you very much John. I appreciate it! Rating #214 for this beer...
Goodgrief (1055), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 2, 2008 June 2006 - Thanks to eaglefan538 sharing with me to celebrate my birthday! Beer poured apple cider brown with decent head and a little lacing. Aroma was really smokey and sweet. Flavor was overwhelmingly smokey (for me, anyway) with a lemony sour undertone. It was interesting, but I can’t say it was pleasant.
