COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

honey-golden body, white head. aromas of yeast/bread, perfumey flowers, and weeds. fruity (especially citrus), floral, and spicy notes. thin body. interesting to try, but probably won’t really have it again; the beer mostly presented itself just a bunch of flavors that didn’t really mesh well.

Thanks to my local buddy Degarth for the brew!

Poured a bright golden body with a quickly fading white head. The aroma is immensely Sweet & Fruity, plums, apricots and pears. Slightly bready flavor but masked by the cloying fusel sweetness and rather spicy citrus zests are just a bit much for me. … Altogether, Not so much my style! – I wish it were though.

Pours cloudy gold, and try as hard as I could, I just couldn’t get a head to form. I couldn’t get much of an aroma out of it, I guess bc of the lack of head. Flavors are uncharacteristically light, fruity, with a hint of spiciness, not as strong as your usual light Belgian. Interesting for its lightness and flavor, comes out almost like a cross between a Belgian ale and an IPA. Has grapefruity hoppiness that is quite pronounced. Interesting, not bad.

Pours a cloudy gold with a seriously firm head. Aroma is nicely fruity and spicy though fusel alcohols show through. The same strong fusels are apparent in the taste, rather unfortunately so, and get in the way of the nice fruity esters. Rather watery in the palate too. Not great.

Ahh. My life the last few weeks, summed up in one simple word. Cloudy straw color with a tall light cream colored head. Aromas of light honey and freshly cut weeds on the side of the road. Plastic and fruity esters abound. Light and creamy on the front followed by a full wave of carbonization. A lightness that is quite welcome and somewhat refreshing. Quite sweet in flavor with mild honey coated scones. Light spice in the finish and linger. Some pale grain flavors a found in the middle and have a hint of peppermint. Some huskiness remains to the finish along with some licorice. Some unrefined moments and sharp edges retrain this on, but still a nice slightly warming, borderline strong ale.

(02.15.06) 12 oz brown bottle obtained from trade with Firemoose15. 15% ABV. Hazy golden light orange hued Belgium-style ale having a small white head. Soft carbonation. Spicy and fruity aromas. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and spicy coriander/fruity aromas. Finishes dry with light malt and light bitterness. Smooth and flavorful with definite alcoholic warmth. Another excellent offering from Heavyweight. Thanks Firemoose15!

Spicy aroma has hints of pepper and coriander. Smells like it would make a great baste for a steak. Color is hazy orange and the head is gone before you can say "Hey the head is gone." Fore is spicy and alcoholic with mild sweetness that seems artifical. Sorta tastes like a mixed drink someone left sitting out in the sun. That’s a little harsh, but it’s close. There are lots of spicy notes through all flavor ranges with coriander and orange peel popping in and out. Just nothing really cohesive about it the way the flavors present themselves.
