COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Bottled. U.S. Beer 27 of 31 for <a href=http://www.americanbeermonth.com> American Beer Month! Smell is kind of light when opened, just a whiff of fruitiness, hops, and maybe brett. May have gone a little stale. Pours slightly darker than a pils, a bit cloudy, making a nice soda-pop sound as the head fizzes. Immediate taste impression is of a nice champagne, which I enjoy. Alcohol is well in front, followed by a light fruitiness, close to but not quite cherries. There is a kind of yeasty taste, but not the "pizza dough" of some beers, more like it’s kicking into the champagne driness and bitterness. Definitely complex and intrguing.

Draft at The Office in Morristown, NJ: Poured a cloudy golden with a lasting white head, left nice lacing. Aromas were yeast and bananas. Flavor was bubblegum and bananas, a little to sweet, and smooth belgian yeast. A medium heavy mouthfeel.

Sample at VTBrewfest - Poured a nice golden amber in color with an off-white head. Aroma was estery with hints of complex fruit, Belgian yeatiness and medium hoppiness. Flavor matched the aroma fairly well, but for some reason did not seem as complicated. Citrus fruit and a mild hoppiness. OK, but not great...

Golden amber with a fleeting white head. Arome was a cacophonyof fruit, yeast, corriander, citrus, Elmer’s glue, pepper, and who knows what. Flavor wasn’t much better. Too much going on and very little of it any good.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2005 2001 Bottle sampled @ RBSG 05’ (Montréal) Grand Tasting
Hazy yellow blonde, off-white head, some lacing. Nose of fresh grains, some [something] hops and papaya. Soothing, clean and lightly husky with a moderate body and a brief tail of a finish. Nice mouthfeel.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2007 Pours a clear golden color at first but then some yeast went into the glass and now it has a hazy swirl, the white head starts medium but slowly diminishes. The aroma has fruits and doughy yeast with some sweetness. The flavor has a round, doughy yeast feel, with some fruits, reminds me of a pastry that’s not too sweet. The body is light with a liquorous texture and low carbonation. Rest in peace Heavyweight, sniff....
