COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lunacy is brewed exclusively with Belgian Pilsner malt, Styrian and English Goldings hops and freshly ground coriander. It begins its life with a long patient boil and is cast into the fermenter at 17.5 P. It then undergoes a vigorous fermentation and extended cold conditioning. After bottling, the beer receives an additional 2 week warm rest before it is released. This yields a surprisingly refreshing brew with spicy notes, sweet malt and subtle fruit.

Thanks mcbackus! I got the bottom of the bottle, so it was a super-cloudy gold color with some brown chunks. Mmmm... The smell was of tart western apples and vanilla cookies with a slight alcohol kick. The flavors are similar. Vanilla cookies and apples and just a bit of sour. Overall, it wasn’t that pretty at the bottom of the bottle, but it tasted good.

Courtesy mcbackus. Pours a hazy, glowing, golden straw color. A small, frothy, cream colored head leaves wet, micro-spot lacing on the glass. The aroma shows sweet pale malts, candy sugar, golden raisons, and a hint of tangy apricot. Flavors follow suit, sweet up front from the candy sugar and golden fruits, but slightly sour on the back end from the young apricot note. Not much in the way of hops going on here. The mouthfeel is substantial, with a fizzy carbonation that has lasted all this time. It’s a nice brew overall. Not really my style, but the hint of sourness saves it.

reddish golden with white head. flavor of malt with some nice depth, no discerning hop presence but well balanced with some spicyness. a nice version of a belgian although it doesn’t really fit a tripel or dubbel style. an enjoyable beer

Thanks for this one Mike! 2002 bottle. Hazy golden yellow with a nice large bubbled white head. Not the nicesst nose. Bitter 7up says Tami, I agree. A bit yeasty, spicy, with spoiled cabbage. Farts? Full creamy mouthfeel with great carbonation. Much better flavors. Appley esters. Spice. Sweetness. Creamy yeastiness. Sweetness lingers. Not bad at all.

Saw this at a beer shop in New York and thought I’d give it a try even though it was far from peak condition. Pours hazy golden with a light tan head. The aroma has rich malt, cream, butter, bananas and basement must. Medium / thick body with only a small amount of carbonation. The flavor starts out with overly rich malt, more abv heat than expected for 7.7% and a tan of mustiness. The finish has lightly toasted malt and cobweb characters. This was only okay, but I’m glad I was able to try it.

Hazy headless orange. Aroma is funky applesauce with slight fusel alcohol presence. Initial taste is acidic, but fades into sweet caramel apple. Carbonation is minimal, but soft.

Has a very Belgian aroma with lots of apple and Belgian yeast. There is also a little bit of citrus aroma and a bit of sourness. The flavor is very strange. It definitely has an apple/malty flavor and not a lot of carbonation. Very sweet.

THOUGHTS: I liked this more this time than I did when I first tried it a couple years ago, but it still isn’t one of my favorite trips. TECHNICAL: On tap at The Drafting Room in Exton at the Baltic Thunder release party. Poured a light, murky, orange with a white head that fully diminished. The aroma was apple cider, wood, yeast and spice. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter and moderately acidic, while the finish was heavily sweet, moderately bitter and heavily acidic. There was apple, white wine and yeast in the flavor. The medium body dry with fizzy carbonation and a moderately astringent and alcoholic finish.
