Commercial Description:
A Baltic porter brewed in collaboration with Lew Bryson. This style is difficult to find outside of the Baltics. What a shame! The grist consists of lots of Munich malt and some chocolate and other specialty malts. A Bavarian lager yeast is used to create this. Dark and mysterious, subtle and well, it is called the Hammer. For those who care, Perkuno was the Baltic thunder god.

Tasted as part of a 7 beer imperial stout/porter tasting. 12 oz bottle. Black color, khaki head, coats glass. The nose is roasty, bittersweet chocolate, and hops. The inital roasted malts flavor transitioned quickly to hops-driven, but sweet flavors such as citrus peels and floral flavors. Dry finish. A really nice beer. Thanks Bert! 7/5/8/5/18 4.3 RERATE (Nov 19, 2006 ) I bought a couple 4/6? packs a couple years ago and they sat in my cellar, getting plucked out every now and then. I am nearly certain this is the last one in my cellar. Since this beer is no longer made, this might be my last one ever, which is a little sad since this was one of my favorite beers after I started my ratebeer journey. The beer is sampled in my NB snifter. The beer is black, really, really black with a thin to non-existant head and evident bottle conditioning. Even though the beer is right out of the beer fridge and is served too cold, the aroma is monsterish. Huge roast, huge caramel, spicy, earthy hops, citrus, and a touch of sourness. The taste is roasty, dark roasted coffee, light vanilla, spicy, 70% dark chocolate, citrus, some overripe plums, and alcohol at the end. The mouthfeel is very thick, but is not at all cloying due to the roastiness and the hops. Numerical rating is for this sample. ADDITIONAL NOTES I’m having another one that a friend got me. I read that some were on the decline or had quality issues, but that isn’t the case with this one. It smells great, like a roasty fruitcake with a touch of sourness. The taste is complex, as I remember, and the mouthfeel is amazing. Perhaps this will be my last?

Bottle, brewtopia. Pitch black, tan head, nice looking body. Rich alcoholic coffee aroma is smooth. Great body with low carbonation. Smooth and silky. Clean clear and lovey brew, thank you whoever brought this.

Bottle post closing. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Sweet malty, chocolate caramel. Notes of smoke and peat with a lightly sour mildly acidic finish. Coffee bitterness and toffee.

05 vintage. Shared via TheRealBastard. Pour is midnight black with small brown head. Aromas strong of coffee, roasted malt, and rasins. Flavor is very mellow with malt, dark fruits, and a lasting coffee flavor in the finish. Much much better thank Victorys imitation of the real thing. Wonderful brew!
