morty99 (371), Maryland, USA Oct 2, 2002 RE Rate- I don’t know what to make of this beer! I bought a 4 pack from my favorite outlet and so far each bottle I have tried had it’s own unique characteristics. The first bottle I had which I ranked a 10 was thin and watery, poured with no head and tasted like chocolate liquor. That said, the bottle I am working on now is amazing! Poured well with a pitch black color and has retained head well so far. Smells even better with hints of roasted chocolate and coffee, slight whiff of alcohol as well. The mouthfeel is incredible, with the roasted chocolate and coffee flavors clinging to your tongue and just a hint of alcohol sneaks through in the end just to let you know this is not your average porter. The aftertaste is incredibly rich and satisfying. I really don’t know what to make of this beer. I have two bottles left and I can only hope that they share the same characteristics as my latter offering did. I can only imagine how good the cask offering must be.
