Another great Saison from Heavyweight (also by way of Glenn). Light, golden body. Aroma of malt, esters, fruits, cloves, sourness. Body is thin and crisply refreshing with flavors of malt, yeast esters and sourness. The flavor isn’t as complex as the black version, but I gave it an extra palate point for being slightly more refreshing. Another win for Heavyweight Saisons.

Dark golden in colour with a long lasting white coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma is spicy, yeasty, orange zest, floral, apples and pineapple. The flavour is lightlly spicy, floral, herbal, yeasty, a bit dusty with lots of citrus blend. Spicy mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. The spice continues into the finish along with juicy oranges and a some apples.

This was quite spicy with lots of citrus. Seems a bit basic but at the same time quite enjoyable. Its holding up quite well.

750ml bottle shared by beerhugger, thanks Steve.
Opened on March 29, 2008.
2004/2005 Vintage.
From a 750mL Bottle. Moderately transparent, golden honey colored pour with a healthy finger of fizzy white head. Impressive amount of carbonation considering the age. Fruity aroma with some soft brett undertones. Notes of peaches, pineapple, and pear. Some light oxidation sherry tones come through as well. Light bodied, spritzy carbonation with a mild acidity. Lots of peach and pear fruit flavors come out up front on the palate accompanied by a mild honey sweetness. Mid-palate, a bit of brett tartness starts to dry up the flavors. Finishes dry, with some dusty apple notes on the back end. This beer clearly shows signs of age, but it wears it well. The oxidation notes are kind of a wash - while there is some thinness, the fruit highlights it adds are welcoming. The hops, however, have completely disappeared, making this a bit sweet despite its dry finish.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a lacing white head. Mild yeasty and slight caramelish aroma. Flavour is crisp and citric. Smoth yet also citric finish with a light fruity touch. Smooth and slight citric finish.

In short: A doughy barnyard Saison with a sharp finish. Excellent tasty beer with a smooth mouthfeel.
How: Bottle 750ml. Probably around 2 years old. Thanks to both Stine and the unexpected simultaneous generosity of BrianK (he bonused me one!!!). Huge thanks to both Eben and Brian. I’m so happy I have another one to drink.
The look: Cloudy golden-orange body with a medium white head
In long: Nose is definitely Barnyard/Countryside. Round and smooth body filled with extra-ripe fruits (citrus, apples, bananas, pineapples, and more). The beer is doughy, very doughy and fluffy, with a spongy hay mash sensation. Flower petals juice. Medium carbonation. No significant sing of oxidation or other aging decays at all. If I didn’t know better I’d think it’s a fresh beer with an old barnyard signature. All that is very well and that would mean a nice wild Saison. Bit the finish really makes it go from very good to excellent. Finish has some dry dusty yeast and it all ends with a short but sharp and almost aggressive tartness that makes it both a 5.8% sipper (!!) as well as a session beer you wanna drink in large quantities. That was a kick-ass vintage beer. Very well preserved and still very wild despite its age, like my hot aunt Linda who hasn’t yet come back from her Woodstock acid trip.

750mL bottle, courtesy of ryan. Thanks! Pours a hazy, golden amber color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Solid amounts of honey, breadiness, and sweet malts in the aroma; overripe fruits and some dried caramel from oxidation; complex, but a touch sweet. Medium mouthfeel: Belgian sugars, honey, and intricate yeastiness upfront; very light dried caramel presence; lively citrus acidity and carbonation; a bit messy overall, and it’s hard to tell whether the added caramel is of benefit or not. Interesting, messy stuff. Medium finish: caramel, yeast, and some Belgian esters; very well-developed overall.
