[bottle] This is probably the most traditionally "saison-like" beer in the Saison de la Soeur line so far - cloudy golden color with medium, fizzy white head - very earthy and musty aroma, interwoven with citrus, grain, spice, gingerbread - I notice no sourness in this as others have - very spicy and peppery - hop profile compliments these qualities, and the cascades in particular are pretty pronounced - some corriander, perhaps even a hint of vanilla - wait, ok there is s bit of sourness in the finish, but it mostly finishes with long lingering hops and a touch of white pepper - not as unique as the other de la Soeurs, but still quite good.

750ml. shared via Cornboy. Huge thanks for sharing this. I’ve been trying to drink this for sometime now. Pour is hazy golden with 2 fingers of frothy white head. Aromas of apples, wood, slight cardboard, and some spice. Flavor is mellow with some apples, tart funk, and old hops. Slightly dissapointed about this one. I think this might have been better 3 years ago. Still drinkable and good.

750mL, courtesy of Beerlando. Pours a hazy golden, tons of foamy head lacing galore. Hops are pretty much gone. A honeyed tart funk, fruit. Taste is more mild, slightly tart, spicy, some oxidized cider notes. Thin and dry in the mouth.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown body with a tan head. Sweet and malty with floral notes. Much of the hop character has disappeared with time as this is 2 years post closing. Slightly oxidized with ripe fruit apple cider and some oak.

750ml bonus via trade with BrianK. Thanks Brian, also got a bottle recently from TheRealBastard. Pours cloudy light brown with a tan head. Nose is sweet and floral with a bit of a syrupy quality. Taste is sweet, bitter and interestingly flavorful will clear hops that are probably a bit old but stil its tasty, there is a underlying heat thats interesting and a little strange. Overall a tasty interesting saison.

In short: A extra-rustic but past due-date oxidized Saison.
How: Bottle 750ml. Vintage, probably 2 years old or so. Received from BrianK, thanks a lot Brian.
The look: Cloudy light brown body with almost no head
In long: Nose is very rustic, an old rusty chariot in an old dirty barn. Body is rather dead which I suspected from the lack of “pssh” when taking the lid off. Toasted hay, roasted nuts, strongly oxidized, mellow toffee, extra-ripe fruits. I really enjoyed the strong rustic character but everything else about this beer is dead. Hard to believe I had the Saison De La Soeur Golden a few weeks ago (about the same age) that was still a masterpiece while this bottle was totally dead. Drinkable because there was enough of it left that I could imagine what it once was. Oh well, at least I got to try the Saison De La Soeur NotHoppyAnymore.

Aged over 2 years. Pours a lightly hazy, dark amber color. A foamy, off-white head settles to a thin film. Skinny, jagged lines and micro spots of lace cling to the glass. The aroma is complex and fruity, a lightly sweet, pale malt background being complimented with everything from chardonnay grapes and currants to pears and red cherries. There is a faded, herbal, earthy hop profile that clearly isn’t as potent as it once was. Flavors feature the chardonnay grape prominently, along with oak, sweet golden raisons, and a hint of butter crust. The hops mostly provide a spicy bite at this point. Medium bodied and smooth, the fine carbonation leads into a semi-dry finish. Not bad at all. Hard to believe this has held up as well as it has.

Thanks Beerlando! A yellowish-orange color with a nice pillow of a white head. Aroma is slightly vinegar, with some herbs and a little mint. Taste has a lot of cherry in it with sour notes and more vinegar.

Courtesy Beerlando. Cloudy light orange color with a thick white head. Aroma is caramel, herbal, peppery, and lots of citrusy hops. Taste is sour, pepper, hoppy, earthy very delicate. Really nice with a slightly fruity citrus finish. Excellent.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2008 Courtesy Beerlando. Mild herbal hops at first. Wheaty minty bready malts. Fresh cotton scent? Seemingly floral. Cloudy gold color. Light foaminess. Neat combo of pie crust, pastry dough, spice and light apricot fruitiness. Really light but full flavored. Mild tartness. Sublime.

Retired bottle from Ryan. Thanks Ryan! I’m guessing this bottle is 2 yrs old. I kept thinking these were sour beers, but I think Soeur means sister in French, which explains why it doesn’t taste sour. Mellow and easy to drink. Classis Saison aroma. Yellow color. Very complex and hard to describe, probably some melding of flavors and aromas from the aging.
