egajdzis (3086), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 18, 2006 Poured a hazy, orange amber color, with a huge, off white head that left light splotches on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruits, bubblegum, strawberries, citrus fruits, toffee malts, wild yeast, brett, hay, and toasted dough, with notes of vanilla oak, cherries, and watermelon. Taste of citrus fruits, vanilla, toffee malts, sour cherries, and nougat, with wild yeast, and leather as well. Dry, tart, grapefruit finish. pineypower (924), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2006 Updated: Jul 28, 2007**Re-Rate after 1 year....Bottled.....pours out a nice golden color with a lively head. Aroma is sweet with some fruit and brett. Taste is very solid, nice balance of fruit(apple, pear), spice and some nice brett on the finish awaisanen (1189), Irvine, California, USA Oct 29, 2006 From a 750mL Bottle. Slightly hazy, golden amber pour with a copious amount of brilliant white foamy head. Wonderful tropical fruit aromas of passion fruit and papaya, complimented nicely by a smidgen of light pepper spice, perhaps grains of paradise. An amazing layer of barnyard funkiness tightens up the already tantalizing bouquet, taking a back seat to the tropical fruit nose. Light bodied, intensely carbonated mouthfeel. Very light, dry palate that explodes with incredibly unique flavors. The wild yeast characters dominate the tongue a bit more, leaving the tropical fruit notes to take a back seat to their refined, herbal grassy hops and balanced bretts. Some flavors of pineapple and papaya follow up a musty, yeasty funk quite well, all the time preserving the beer’s brilliant dry body. Long, pleasantly dry finish, slightly tart with a spicy herbal hops smack. Simply marvelous! Schroppfy (1741), Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2006 More Orvalish than Orval, and by that I mean this is the peak of the more light and fresh Orval, rather than the occasional heavy and dull, big-bodied bulky liquid you can sometimes get with age. Lovely and dark golden, with some suspended particulates. This was a little bit stringy with the big brett but incredibly bright and vibrant with tangy sourness, hay and wet grass laid upon bitter lemon peel. Really really good, and by that I mean delicious. The aroma curls your nostril hairs. Sweetness is of peach I guess, but it’s subtle. I cannot believe Heavyweight is no longer brewing - in 5 years on this site it’s the biggest loss to the craft beer community I can think of. CharlesDarwin (1442), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 31, 2007 Tropical fruit aroma heave. Light hoppy edges meld into horned melon seeds, prickly pear juice and warmed asian pear flesh. Persimmons and passionfruit come to mind. Clouded amber-tinted gold, with soap of white. Flavor stays in the bowl of tropical fruits, this time leaning towards a freshly chopped Hawaiian pineapple. Then Brett catches you by the teeth and introduces you to the glowing face of coconut juice. Very effusive and light, with a harmonious balance of incredible fruit character and just the necessary twinge of Brett. Edges out in salty, oat grain. Perfect mouthfeel, carrying so much flavor in such a mindblowingly drinkable beer with a great texture. Finishes with touches of white fig jam. Possibly the perfect beer, really. Thanks, andy.
