EddieG (162), Palos Heights, Illinois, USA Oct 2, 2004 Nice beer with good malt backing and nice noble hop spiciness. A little tart (infection maybe?) that someohow fits in with the beers profile. A nice attempt at an interesting style.
riversideAK (1561), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jul 18, 2008 Bottle from eclectic. Thanks man! Pours a hazy brown orange with a thin head and great lacing. Aromas of caramel, old grassy/earthy hops, some tart fruits - lemon, apple. The flavor is kind of tart up front. Green apples are followed by a little bread, caramel malts, and earthy hops. Finishes a little tart with some oxidized hop presence. Lightly carbonated and pretty easy to drink all things considered. I am pretty sure this was nice fresh if it tastes this way a few years old. Still drinkable, even though it is obviously starting to decline. iowaherkeye (1375), rocking podunk Marengo!, Iowa, USA Apr 24, 2008 12oz bottle, no date from BrianK, thanks! Hazy orange copper with a small yellow beige head, fading to a ring and film before long. Thin stringy lacing. Aroma of buttery sweet caramel and yeasty bread up front. A little bit of earthy hops are also present. Flavor has a lot of tangy (cherry and apple?) notes that I don’t think should be there, but really didn’t taste all that bad. Plenty of earthiness and caramel, some oxidation present. Low carbonation with medium body. Clearly past its prime, but I don’t think altbiers are meant to be consumed years after bottling. That said, not too bad. sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 17, 2008 Shared at Cleveland tasting 3/15 Bottle: Pours a hazy gold with an off white head. Aroma, spices, yeast, floral notes. Flavor, spices, yeasty notes, floral and doughy, some earthy notes. BeerVirgin72 (568), C-Bus, Ohio, USA Mar 17, 2008 Bottled shared at Cleveland Tasting. Thanks to Brandon for helping figure this one out for me. I notes were written rather poorly I confess. Pour was a murky brown. Kind of sweet and malty. jgb9348 (1817), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Feb 16, 2008 Deep somewhat hazy brown coloured body with a bit of a ruby and dark rust coloured tint. A small tan head fades away briskly. Aroma of fresh hops, sugars, raisins and some other fruits. Medium-bodied; Hoppy taste up front fading to a little malty flavour with no spices or anything else. Aftertaste finishes a bit bitter with some nuttiness noticeable and little else. Overall, not much for the style and really not a good beer throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 19-November-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
