DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2006 Finding a new Heavyweight OTOP beer is like finding a 4-star, 3-input call girl in your bed. This one was in Super Saver. The pour was deep on the black side, with a 3-finger snow blanket tan head. Definite 5 for looks here, folks. The aroma was big roasty malty, with cabernet, nuts, cinnamon, cacao, and coffee. The taste starts roasty malty with some chocoff, then gives up some cinnamon, hops, figs, nuts, and even slight rauchy oaky scotch. Very rich, smooth, velvety, and complex palate. I’m holding one of these for JPDIPSO, but I really need to get more of these for myself! Tom Baker has another winner on his hands. adrian910ss (1032), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 18, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby amber with a medium beige head. Aroma of sweet malts, raisins, caramel, toffee and vanilla. Taste of sweet dark fruit, caramel, raisins, toffee with a touch of chocolate. Excellent !!! 11026 (1886), USA May 21, 2006 Bottle from Thaichile. Pours a pleasant deep brown color with just a hint of ruby. Nice light brown head forms and fades down to a moderate layer covering the beer. Aroma is malty, some hints of the raisins used. Full bodied and silky, lower percieved carbonation level. Rich malty flavors, a touch of sugar that resembles light molasses. Raisins I don’t really get in flavor. Quite nice, it is a shame these folks won’t be brewing anymore. The will be sorely missed. Papsoe (10459), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 30, 2007 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of nicolascage. Slightly hazy, reddish brown with a creamy, light brown head. Vinous and complex aroma of dried fruit and port. Quite full-bodied with very sweet caramel flavours, some overripe fruit, vanilla and sherry. A little low in carbonation and a very subdued bitternes. This really is like fluid candy. Very delicious indeed. 191207 cb (810), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA Aug 10, 2006 Gorgeous french vanilla/creamy beige fluffy head. Deep dark brown with a slight reddish hue. Tons of molasses and brown-sugar laced cookie dough scent. Quite rich and sweet (almost cloying)at first, quickly mellows with a touch of bitterness. Alot of almond nougat a la a British candy bar I had recently. Got the most raisin flavor in the finish, along with a lot of almost-burned brown sugar. "Dark fruit" flavor is not assertive but present. Alcohol never makes its presence known.
Amazingly rich and full. Makes me excited about Scotch ales and rating again.
