4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 badlizard (4410) - San Diego, USA - MAY 29, 2010
This is a damn fine beer. It’s totally mishugina! Dark topaz with a short lived white fizzy head. Sweet caramel, smooth whiskey, and relaxed grain aroma. Tastes of rich caramel, butterscotch, vanilla, and smooth oak with a remarkably creamy velvety palate. Outstanding!

19 may 2012, bottle. Med orange color, clear, steady bubbles. Nose is amazing! Huge alcohol, a bit of rye, raisins. Wow. Med body and moderately fizzy. Ugarit sweet, alcohol is very obvious, golden syrup or bourbon notes, slight bitter finish. Wow!

Poured From bottle. Aroma is really hoppy I see where the Amarillo and Simcoe are in the aroma. Flavor is full of citrusy hops. Amazing! the Flavor also has Really nice Rye notes. I love Rye beers and this is clearly no exception. Palate is thick and oily The high alchohol is not noticed the whiskey is also quite noticeable I get the Wood Flavors well also. Overall amazing!

Tap pour into a snifter at Goodfriend in Dallas. One finger white head atop a clear ruby/amber body. Immediate spice on the nose. Followed by some tangerine, ever-so-slight whiskey, and bready malt. First taste was quite the shocker. Rye is the first and last note, with an impressive wash of floral hop, citrus, caramel maltiness, whiskey burn, and a hint of vanilla. This brew is incredibly balanced given its high hop content. The rye whiskey barrel aging adds a wonderful, light additional rye character to the beer. Very enjoyable brew.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 leeburg (203) - Juneau, Alaska, USA - FEB 16, 2012
12 oz. bottle, reddish amber, nice off-white head with good retention. Great aromas include sweet, dried fruits, notes of sherry, bubble gum, a lot going on in addition to the resiny hops, which are almost background noise despite the amount of them, and I have to attribute that to the rye. Flavor is initially both sweet and bitter, with a wide variety of hoppy characteristics. Coniferous bitterness with thick sweet maltiness, mouth-coatingly thick and a lingering bitter floral finish. This is pine sap and grapefruit peel balanced out by huge maltiness, and a notable alcohol presence with the rye complexity. As another rater below noted, it is definitely barleywinesque, so if you like full bodied, full flavored beers and are a RyePA or a barleywine fan, definitely do not pass this up.

Deep cloudy mahogany pour with off-white head and complete lacing making the glass look frosted. Very nice. Aromas of caramel malts, grains, and notes of citrus and whiskey. Slight bitter taste at first with a slight, warming alcohol, and sweetness on the back end. Medium body, a little syrupy. Overall, a tasty rye and the whiskey is just right for me.

On tap at Urge. Orange pour with sticky tan head of tiny bubbles. Nose is brown sugar, sweet alcohol, and peppery oak. Taste is huge. Sweet and hot alcohol. Caramel and sharp hops. It’s amazing how closely a rye-barrel aged DIPA resembles a barley wine.

8 oz sample on tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma on this beer has plenty of whisky notes with some vanilla and woody hints. Mild cardboardy oxidation is also present. Really quaffable. Mostly hazy amber body with a creamy off-yellowish head. Really good lacing present. Starts a little spicy before this becomes a bit sweet and herbal with vanilla barrel character. Finishes with more rye malt spiciness. A little ethanol late. Surprisingly, this is pretty good, seeing I am not usually impressed with this brewery’s offerings.

650ml bomber pours amber in color with a finger of off-white head which leaves a nice lace on the glass. Aroma is a wonderful bouquet of hops with some whiskey and a touch of alcohol. Taste is bold hoppy bitterness with a bit of whiskey and a nice amount of malty sweetness to balance this out. Medium to heavy body and some nice carbonation. With a pleasant blend of flavors this brew was a real treat.
