4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Oddly delicious. This beer is rather sweet and fairly cloying, however rye spice and the rye barrel work well with the sweetness. The rye is smoky, almost hot. Thereís a lot of malt. Brown sugar, molasses, raisins, and lots of rye bread. Itís not really a DIPA, in my opinion. This is essentially an interesting barleywine. Hops are muted or, at least, masked by the rye and merely lend some bitterness in the flavor. Itís a fairly kooky beer. Lots of caramel malt. Definite alcohol heat. The total package is quite enjoyable. Definitely a sipper.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled in August 2013, Batch 3. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a 2 finger head. Nice lacing. Sweet aroma of spicy rye, brown sugar, some vanilla, whiskey and slight alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. Taste matches aroma with mild bitterness. Lingering sweet rye aftertaste. Slightly sticky. Really enjoyable.....

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy rusty bronze with a nutty whiskey aroma and a touch of charred caramel, perhaps a wee touch of raisin as well. Flavor is big and a bit boozy with notes of whiskey through and through. In between are notes of rye dough, char, earthy roasted caramel, and earthy rye/grass bitterness. Finishes with a bit of whiskey and charred dates/rye dough hoppiness.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber bottle. Pours a cloudy brown color with a medium tan head. A rich Barley Wine like nose of bourbon, sweet toasted malts and a large hop presence. The flavor is very malty, citrus hops, no bitterness, woody, earthy, vanilla and light bourbon, toasted malts. The alcohol is only noticed in the flavor in the 1st sip. The malt hides it pretty well and the warming starts. Great to celebrate the Cowboy victory with.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate caramel, vanilla, whiskey, light oak, rye, and a touch of mint. It pours a transparent copper with a small khaki head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is some thin dripping webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate caramel, toffee, and light vanilla. The finish has moderate pine, oak, lighter whiskey, and rye. Itís medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, I havenít been much of a fan of bourbon/whiskey barrel aging IPAs. While the aroma was really nice on this one, I just donít think IIPAís are ideal for barrel aging.

Bottle thanks to somebody, rating from my backlog. The smell is rye, alcohol, hops, wheat, and caramel. The look is clear with an off white head. The taste is sweet, alcohol, hops, and caramel.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Dark amber. Dark fruit aroma and taste. Good lacing. Sour, maybe too much of the barrel aging. But interesting and fun to drink. Not for the slight of heart.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A tad too much barrel aging but overall just not that bad. Surprisingly not too boozy. Love the base beer, but the barrel flavor obfuscates instead of complements just a tad too much. B-

Bomber to snifter (shared b jmborggren). Looks good; a cloudy dark copper with ample foamy off-white head. Smells solid; boozy and spicy. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark amber with a good head and nice lacing on the glass.
The aroma is pungent and whole wheat bready, itís got some woodiness, & some vanilla... it smells nice, but also sort of meh.. I donít know what to say here, I mean itís got aromas I like, but theyíre sort of not that exciting all together like this, or at least finessed in this particular way.
The flavor is really dominated by whiskey with some nice c-hop hoppiness and a respectable bitterness to match. Plenty of brown sugar, some vanilla, lots and lots of wood, lots of wood... síreal woody.
Itís a cool beer, not exactly good... but cool and fun.
Iíve got fond memories of drinking the non-Barrel aged version of this beer, and I think Iíd still enjoy it... but this incarnation is not really for me.
