madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 12, 2009 Bomber - pours a deep amber with a small foamy head. Smells of sweet malt. Taste starts out malty with a lot of rye, then a blast of hops hits and sits on the back of the tongue throughout the finish. Pretty light body. A good beer, but a the balance wasn’t there--it was just in your face with malt and hops. Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Mar 7, 2009 Bottled. Thick syrupy, the rye is predominant. Finishes with hops. Alcohol too prominent in this one. HLGIV (14), Golden, Colorado, USA Mar 1, 2009 Bottle, purchased 2/28/09. Pours thick like syrup then develops a nice head. Rye apparent on the nose, but not an extremely hoppy aroma. Taste is slick like rye with nice bitterness and balanced mouthfeel. Love the name! nathan30533 (138), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Mar 1, 2009 Smell is that of caramels and hops. Bit long lasting bitter hop taste. Great look, foggy with white head. Good overall double IPA. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Feb 25, 2009 (Sample Date: 1/20/2009 Source:Capital Ale House - Downtown) Caramelized sugar and floral hop aroma. Clear dark amber orange with fine white persistent head. Full body and creamy mouthfeel. Lots of caramel sweetness, slightly fruity, with big hop bitterness. Finish is quite dry and puckering from high hop bitterness. Alcohol is well concealed behind lots of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Excellent elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 21, 2009 Bomber, shared at tasting. Poured brown amber with a wispy head. Aroma was hoppy, soapy, floral, and grainy. Palate felt sticky and chewy down throat, with muddled flavors of hops, pine, grain, and ash. Overall, although this beer had an element of novelty, it just didn’t come together for me how I wanted it to. A few different people in my tasting commented that they could clearly perceived the finishing flavors, but not anything prior to that. Magicdave6 (5400), London, Greater London, England Feb 16, 2009 Bottle from utobeer. Aroma is big big caramalt character, even hints of roasty malts which must be rye based, fruity, small citrusyness. Taste is similar in all manners, sweet and syrupy, yet still drinkable. Alright, but not the iipa i was thinking it was going to be. ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Feb 14, 2009 bomber from grape and gourmet. pours a nice, dark copper color with a thick, light beige head and solid lacing. aroma is slightly sweet, with rye malts, caramel, figs, dates, and some grassy hops on the back end. not hop forward and citrusy like most DIPAs. Flavor is malt dominant and slightly sweet at the outset. Flavors of toasted marble rye, some toffee, caramel, and a touch of roasted nuts and vanilla are backed by some slightly piney hops with just a touch of citrus. aftertaste is very similar to thick apple cider. mouthfeel is slightly syrupy, mostly due to sweetness of the brew. nicely carbonated with a solid alcohol presence on the swallow. honestly, way too malt forward to be a DIPA, but not a bad beer at all.
