cgort (52), mission viejo, California, USA Apr 22, 2008 a big dark brew. has the scent of sweet apple cider. The flavor is deep and sweet with a good mix of hops and malt. The palate was very thick. overall a good beer. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Apr 22, 2008 Clear copper kettle color with a nice off white head. Great smell of piney hops with a bit of roasted dark grain malts, rye i suppose. Light/medium body and smooth. Taste is a nice mesh of fresh pine forest and spicy hops and roasty grainy rye malts. Another unique beer from HeBrew. 1.15.2007 shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 21, 2008 Pours a deep amber color with a white head. Aroma is malty, some roast, caramel, and some citrus hops. Flavor is rye, caramel, roast, malt, and a full bitter citrus hop finish. Skeets (23), Sacramento, California, USA Apr 20, 2008 Bottle, pours dark copper. Hop aroma is a bit subdued compared to most of the DIPA’s I’ve tried, but nice. Might be due to the fact that it was in my cellar for a few months... Flavor is complex and well balanced. I like the edge that the rye gives it. Very nice. This is a great, big beer. rustychiles (1007), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 20, 2008 Pours a deep dark copper color with a medium size white head. Aroma of hops, malt and rye. Flavor of sugars, hops, rye, caramel, grapefruit bitterness and some pine. Pretty tasty (HE)brew. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Apr 18, 2008 Bottle pours a clear and deep garnet color with a large fair skinned head that has that elevated structure in the middle with poetic and comedic lace. The aroma is rye, caramel, and some pine. The flavor is mostly rye, some caramel malt, some piney hops, and some lingering sweetness and fruitiness. There is even some banana clove in there. It really is not as "all over the map" as the ingredients would imply. It is rather well structured given the hodge-podge construction. The palate is creamy and lively. Overall this is quite nice. I’m really starting to enjoy the rye in some of the beers I’ve had lately. This one is no exception to the rule. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Apr 14, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark copper color with a medium-sized tan head...excellent lacing present. Sweet caramel, light roasted malts, rye and strong piney hops in the nose of this olfactory bastardizer. Dry, yet sweet palate...the alcohol isn’t exactly hidden well in this but that doesn’t deter from the fine caramel, pine, and roasted malt flavors. It seemed as though some anise notes come through as it warms. Good stuff. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 13, 2008 Just not seein’ what others are in this one. Dark copper body with dense off-white head. Forest and marbled rye aroma with the palate of olive oil. Alcohol is very evident and unappealing.
