HeBrew Bittersweet Lennys R.I.P.A

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color. Head was two fingers high and light tan with good retention and lacing. Lovely beer. Aroma was of nuts, toasted bread, caramel, husky grain, and citrus/resiny hops. There was also a hint of brown sugar. Sweet on the tongue and and very fruity with pineapple flavor. Alcohol flavor was fairly assertive and there was a toasted coconut note that was interesting. Only mild to moderate hop bitterness of about 4 out of 10 came through. Good beer.

ABR 2007. A little rye peaks out from the sweet hop nose. Mostly hops in the sweet body. Average finish.

Draft at the Blind Tiger. Reddish / light brown color with a creamy head. The aroma was of sweet caramel malt and citrus hops. The malt flavor is very good in this one, and it reminds me of the malt in a dogfish beer. Nice amount of bitterness.

Have not been impressed with this brewery but this was damn good. Reddish copper body was topped with an ample creamy off-white head. The nose is assaulted by the grapefruit and pine hops with some caramel malt trying to be noticed. Surprisingly, that caramel sweetness is more evident in the flavor, even with the intense hop bitterness. Very nice drink from a brewery with more chutzpah and humor than quality. And I like the nod to Lenny Bruce. Being a child of the Sixties, I recall his cutting edge and biting humor and social commentary. This beer celebrates that nicely.

Aroma is sweet and citrus. Amber body with a tan head. Flavor is really sweet for an IIPA but finishes nice and bitter. Palate was surprisingly thin and light bodied. Very light for a double. Had at end of tasting so should try again.

Bottle. Great looking brew. Pours hazy amber with a good tan head. Nose of citrus, flowers and caramel malt. Taste is citrus and caramel, sweet. Bitterness lingers for a while, good amount, but not overwhelming. Much more malt than I would’ve thought.

Duck Island, Seattle
Amber colour, slightly hazy. Chewy, earthy, with lots of grapefruit and crystal malt. Extra chewy on the palate, resiny, crystal malt and more grapefruit. Balanced but for the lack of rye. Good brew, but not great.

Pours a deep amber color. Very flowery and citrucy aroma, not much head. Very hoppy. Would be a great beer except for the aftertaste, which reminds me of old socks and wet dog.
