ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2007 Nose of spruce, caramel & berries. Pours a clear sparkling copper. The brew’s cascade resolves into a huge fully lasting off white creamy & rocky head with wicked lace. The flavor is exceptionally complex with very good balance. The huge bitter profile is impossible to ignore despite the balance and depth however; and is especially prominent of course in the superb finish. The full body is soft & creamy, the finish feels dry. Very nice. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 23, 2007 Pours a reddish amber with a medium creamy orange head. The aroma was sweet, had a solid caramel malt backbone, rye is evident, earthy character, it resembles an "English" Imperial IPA. The flavor also has a sweet malty backbone, had a hoppy bitter profile, warming alcohol, waxy, caramel, earthy, fruity, bubblegum. The palate was waxy and warm. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 21, 2007 I really had fun with this. A Jewish friend picked this out of the cellar and we split it. I was really impressed with it. It was well hopped and thought it a little tart. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 21, 2007 Pours a clear but very dark amber with a sizeable tan head. Nose is highly hoppy. Strong resin tone with a bit of cotton candy I think. Fruity citrus edge as well. Flavor is definitely hopped, of course. Strong, stringent hop flavors kick you in the mouth, but not too abrasively really. It may be an over the tope type of ride, but it doesn’t go too over that top. Feel is bordering on a bit syrupy with all that stuff in there. Carbonation seems high with the massive head, but not a huge amount of bubble going over the tongue. Initially I was going to give a 4 on the drinkability on this one. But then I realized that the 10% alcohol on this one doesn’t peek out at all as you imbibe. Overall, this is nothing absolutely outstanding to behold, but it is very good all the same. Worth a try, especially for the price. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 19, 2007 Updated: Sep 21, 2007650 ml. Dark brown-amber with a medium and lasting head with some nice lace. Aroma is burntish caramel, fruit and cocoa.
Flavor is similar on beginning, with a nice slide to more bitter resin in the middle, and a sharp, bitter citrus, and apple finish. Aftertaste is bitter chocolate, herbs, and coffee. Palate is medium bodied and smooth with a nice dry and tingly finish. shrubber85 (2833), Wallhalben, Germany Sep 14, 2007 Bottle. Rye, cherry and malt aroma. Red amber color with small head. Sweet cherry flavor up front followed by a nice strong pine hops finish. Nicely blended. Trooper11 (464), Suffolk, Virginia, USA Sep 9, 2007 Dark brownish caramel colored brew, thick foamy head. Mild yet consistent aroma is sweet citrus with notes of caramel. Deep dry bitterness fills the palate. Very strong citrus acidy flavor, nutty undertones. Powerful hops presence. What an incredible warmth through out the torso. Umm good. dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 6, 2007 Wonderful aroma. Hops and caramel. Flavor is dominated too much by bitterness and is a bit thick. Flavor is still pretty good; the rye makes it different in an okay way.
