But still, thick and chewy and good! drawde (115), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Barleywinish aroma. Pours and looks like a syrupy brown ale, coffee-colored head. The rye base is a nice change but it does mute the hops a bit (although maybe it’s just too tilted in that direction). Nice, syrupy alcohol warming the palate. Lasting sting. Pretty good, but I think just barely an IPA, it tastes too close to a barleywine to be favorite of mine. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 30, 2007 Bold and sweet aroma with tons of hops. Dark copper color with good head retention. For the ABV, the hop level is great. Robust body. Overall a very nice beer. jobyone (234), Charlotte, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2007 Tasted during of a sampling of 6 IPAs and this one stood out. Not because it was the best but because it tasted so un-IPAish. There was a sweetness to the aroma and taste that I assume is a result of using Rye. The color is a nice amber the head is off white. I really liked this beer just not as an IIPA. I will definately have more. slang (397), Columbia, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 16, 2007 22 oz. Brown IIPA w/ a light nose yet intense mouthfeel. The rye is very obvious, more so to me than the hops or alcohol. Flavors are intense and even spicy?? at times. Sort of lacks the drink-ability & thirst quenching nature of most but Really breaks the IIPA mold. Its a great beer. MrRain (427), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 16, 2007 Bottled in a tulip. I don’t know. It has a very interesting footprint. It starts off smooth and nondescript but ends with a hoppy finish. I really like this beer at first but as it warmed up the bitter finish lost it’s nice hoppy bitterness and was replaced with a bile bitterness. I was less and less impressed with this beer as it warmed. This is still one of the more dynamic He’Brew brews but it fell short of satisfaction in the long run. Long live Lenny Bruce!
