theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Dec 16, 2006 Bomber. Pour is amber with a big, foamy head that lasted a long time. Hoppy aroma. Taste is hop and heavy malt. Finish almost has a scotch ale feel to it (not sure if thats the rye or not), pretty complex. I would rate this beer higher, but the booziness was overpowering for me, way to much alcohol presence in the finish. LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Dec 15, 2006 22 oz bottle. Cloudy amber color with full foamy head. Hoppy aroma with lite malt aroma. taste of malt and hops with bitter and alcohol after taste. Very good and different IIPA. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 15, 2006 Was very pleasantly surprised by this one. 22oz bottle, which I’ve had in the cellar for 4-5 months. Pours a lovely copper-to-brown with a nice full head. The body and the complex palate were both quite well-balanced, unlike some offerings I’ve had from this brewer. A nice integration of malts (especially the rye, which gives it a nice piquant flavor) and the intense hops. Sorry that I didn’t pick up more of this fine brew. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 11, 2006 Redish amber color. Smell of hops, malt, grapfruit, rye, orange peal and slight alcohol. Tastes the same but with more rye taste. Throw in some more hops too! Nice orange zest bitterness at the end. Alcohol is hidden very well. chimplechamp (463), Oslo, Norway Dec 9, 2006 cheers dad for the brew-
bottle
ample head pale yellow in color, pours dark golden red. smells sweet, toffee, citrus, rye, and pine. taste matches the smell sweet, and bitter, with an odd mixture of the two for a finish. good stuff. BrewSquid (45), Plattsburg, Missouri, USA Dec 9, 2006 Another "hop-head" marketing ploy! IPA is an British beer style but there are NO British hops using in the brewing of this beer. There is also no recognized beer style known as Double IPA.
Hops are the spice of beer and like all spices must be used carefully. This beer uses 6 different American hops that do not necessarily work well together. They use 225# of hops for a 100 bbl brew forgetting that "more" is not always better. It is hoppy but the bitterness is very harsh. At $4.49 a bottle it was worth trying once but is not worth repeating. GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 8, 2006 Very dark red with cream-colored head. Smell is of alcohol, pine, hops, and caramel. Somewhat syrupy in the mouth. Mild hop and citrus tartness with sweet malt and coffee flavor. Overall the taste was quite complex. The finish is of alcohol and tingles as a mix of caramel and bitterness lingers on the tingling tongue. $7.00 for a bottle was a worthwhile purchase. TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA Dec 7, 2006 Pours red with off white head. Aroma is sweet malt, hops, light citrus, and sweet fruit. Flavor is sweet malt back with nice bitter hop finish. Sticky and sweet.
