rabidbarfly (57), London, England Jun 7, 2009 One of the biggest beers you’ll ever have the pleasure of drinking. There is so much flavour that your tastbuds won’t reall know where to begin!
The bottle is defo one to share with another beerhound. don’t try this at home kids this is one for the adults! jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands May 31, 2009 Bottle@WSF09. Sweet, raisin and port notes in the aroma. Amber colour, beige head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, rye, quite hoppy. Not a bad brew but it fell on me like a brick of concrete. Bam! And not in a good way. NJBeerman013 (764), Trenton, New Jersey, USA May 30, 2009 Draft. Deep amber in color, small pure white head. Flavor and aroma notes of citrus, pine, cereal grains, rye bread, creamy caramel, and fruits. A medium body and smooth finish. CanIHave4Beers (833), Des Moines, Iowa, USA May 29, 2009 Pours a nice reddish orange with a big caramel colored head with some good lace. The aroma is simple but strong and very inviting, plenty of pine and caramel that you can smell across the room. The flavor is surprisingly dry likely from the rye which seems very dominant here, there is a lot of hop bitterness and the grapefruit aspect is pretty high here. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. wyzzywyz22 (754), Wirral, Merseyside, England May 24, 2009 Bottle, Utobeer, London. Definite extra marks for paying homage to one of the comedy greats. Poured a very dark amber colour. Aroma was fruity and boozy with a whole load of hops..Sweetish flavour with a peppery slant with yet more bitter hops and a bit of citrus; alcohol evident and noticable, caramel malt and rye too. Quite a complex drop this. Finished drying. I think LB would have approved; as in the words of the great man.... The "what should be" never did exist, but people keep trying to live up to it. There is no "what should be," there is only what is. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 20, 2009 22 oz bottle, via EDA. Pours a clear dark copper body with a one inch creamy beige head. Big caramel and toffee malt on the nose with some resiny hops and a bit of earthy rye. The malt certainly dominates this one, heavy crystal malt and burnt toffee with some rye bread and harshly bitter resiny hops on the back end. A slightly harsh alcohol kick on the finish as well. Full bodied and beefy with a little too much crystal malt stickiness on the back end. The soft fizzy carbonation does cut it a bit though. Overall, decent enough, but I thought that the bitterness and heavy crystal malt didn’t work too well together. Slipstream (734), USA May 18, 2009 Fantastic, full tilt hop aroma of herbs, grass, pine. Good head and lacing. There is a theater marquee style label that dedicates this brew to Lenny Bruce. This tastes like a very fine IPA. Caramel malt backing, piney hops, and a smooth texture. I dont really taste the rye. It might have been overwhelmed by all those hops and malts. The 10 percent ABV is not that noticeable. Mazeltov to this very worthy and well balanced ale. This joins my ever growing group of excellent IPAs. kuphish (150), Bloomington, Indiana, USA May 15, 2009 Bomber. Poured a bronze-brown body with a frothy, off-white head. Citrusy, piney, and herbal hops dominate the aroma with a little caramel malt poking through. Hops come through strong in the flavor, but are quickly torched by hot alcohol. Palate is medium-full with a bitter finish and tons of alcohol. Needs refinement.
