3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Tmoney99 (7307) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 1, 2006
Bottle. Poured brown color with a huge frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasty bread malt alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Heavy sweet flavor with a medium balanced finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 31, 2006
Dark copper color with a small, but stable taupe head. Caramel, rye and mild citric hops in the nose. Light fruit with raisins and a hint of peach start the flavors out. Later a mild grapefruit and pine. A rather sharp finish with more citric and pine pitch. A solid effort.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tupalev (2730) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 31, 2006
Bottle shared with Blankboy, GregClow, Jerc, and Hogtown Harry after the MBG 06. Dark orange, deep small white head. Booze, malt, and slight whiskey in underwhelming aroma. Decent taste - tons of malt, rye, lots of booze; hops near middle and end. Decent, but way too hot! An ok big beer, but pales in comparison to other much better in the style - but since its a Double IPA, it gets to be in the 91st percentile? I’m a defender of the site against those who rally against the big beer bias of ratebeer, but this is a tough one to defend...but by boss loved the whole Hebrew label!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (4454) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 31, 2006
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev at our Hotel in Michigan -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours orange-red with a small semi-lasting off-white head. Sweet aroma of malt, brown sugar, some rye, smoke and earthy hops. Flavour: holy crap that’s a lot of alcohol! Along with all the booze there’s caramel malt, fruit, some smoke and hops and alcohol in the finish. Did I mention this was boozy?! Medium bodied. I liked it but the small sample I had was enough, it’s just too boozy -- perhaps needs to be aged for a while?
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sregnar35 (843) - Rotterdam, New York, USA - JUL 30, 2006
Not too bad. Pours a dark reddish orange with a nice tinted red head. Aroma is strange, smells fishy and hoppy. Flavor was somehow like a mix between a mouthfull of an average IPA and a piece of sushi. I could taste the starchy rice, tuna, wasabi, soy sauce, hops, malt, just very different.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GregClow (2667) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 30, 2006
Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc and tupalev at the hotel after the MBG Summer Festival - tupalev’s bottle. Dark orange-amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet and earthy, notes of rye bread and hops, with a bit of smoke and whisky. Flavour of caramel malt, booze and sharp hops - some good flavours, but they’re not very well integrated, and it just seems harsh, especially in the finish. Maybe a bit of aging would do it some good.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dorwart (2164) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - JUL 28, 2006
Nice 2 inch head of fine dense orange bubbles. Boy did this stuff look thick as I poured it into my glass. Head settled beautiful and very slowly. I was looking through the liquid as I poured it and I don’t think that I have seen better colored brew in my life. It is a fiery reddish orange and seems to glow in my glass. Nice sweet and malty aroma with a light helping of piney hops. Little fruit and honey also. Thick palate. Can almost chew this brew. Big alcohol presence which stands out amongst all of the malts. Nice bitterness with some more piney and citrus hops, roasted malts, caramel and decent bitterness. This beer has some big flavor. This is not a weak IIPA. This is just about boardering on a barleywine since there is so much flavor, malts and alcohol. There is a hint of plastic as the brew warms but it does not detract much. Finish is creamy and slightly dry with a nice alcohol warming. This is an outstanding brew. Full of immense flavor and palate. I actually wish that there was a little more hops presence in this one. The malts really overshadow the hops. I am surprised this one is not rated higher. Although a 3.8 is nothing to shirk at. A great big thanks to Magjayran for providing this brew as part of my secret santa. BRAVO!!

dark amber/reddish brown body with medium tan head...excellent floral, piney aroma that finishes with sweet sugars and caramel...flavor is of grapefruit rind and pine, and is followed by sweet malts....bitter finish

Bottle from Super Saver. Dark coppery brown pour with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma is very fruity, hoppy, with a bready and caramel malt aroma, plus a bit of that ryeish candy smell that seems to be part of the Hebrew house character. The flavor is caramel malty, rich and frutiy, hoppy, with some rye and plasticy notes. Dense palate.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 HogTownHarry (4873) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JUL 26, 2006
Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev, tupalev’s bottle. Poured cloudy orange with a decent frothy off-white head. Sweet, boozy, rye-grain aroma, perfumy hops, a hint of soap in the finish. Light sweet grainy malt taste, boozy, somewhat hop-bitter but I couldn’t identify what type of hops - just sorta bitter - even more alcohol in the longish finish. Dry and astringent mouthfeel, nicely carbonated - I quite liked elements of this brew, but it’s a little too hot ’n boozy - perhaps aging it would help.
