From bottle into snifter, clear deep ruby with lasting thick head. Smell is subdued, taste is quite nice up front but then it turns into a monster and does a piss poor job of hiding the 10% ABV...but that’s bittersweet. As long as you keep chugging and avoiding the ABV bite, it’s good. As soon as you stop...beware the demon. If you’re looking to get fucked up quick, load up. If you’re looking for something to savor, look elsewhere. Time to chug.

Smells of bread sweet malts Orange pulp and slight booze scent. Dark red amber color. Sweet malt come out at first then hoppy citrus fruits with a wine like finish a taste that I dislike but can handle cause it’s suddel. Medium sticky body with lite carbonation. Brews a bit malty and boozy for what I enjoy for an IPA even one with this high ABV. But this could use more hop flavor. Not bad overall.

Much too bitter for my liking. Out of my normal brew comfort zone. Trying to spread my wings with new types...this however, was way off the mark.

Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some bready malty tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste.

Pours a dark copper brown from a bottle. Whiskey and rye nose with caramel. Flavor similar, very malty, with lots of hops too, but seems like less of an IPA than a pale ale, or even a super hopped scotch ale. Good beer.

Visual: (cellared for 4 years). Pours deep mahogany brown with a long lasting ultra-creamy small head, sticky micro lacing, super fine layer of 1mm retention, clusters of snail speed streams near the surface. Nose: toffee barley malt. (lvl-4)-pungency Attack: superfine creamy smooth, thick-dense mouthfeel, suspended micro CO2 Mid-palate: grapefruit bitter hops, (lvl-5-sweetness), toffee toasted barley malt, resiny, trace metallic Finish: sweet-heavy alcohol hit, dry rye malt. Summary: Super duper creamy mouthfeel unlike most others, stealth 10% ABV hits hard once it’s all over. Very drinkable, up there.

12 oz bottle. Clear dark amber pour with a white head that disappears quickly. This is so oxidized. Smells like cardboard and cereal. Shocking flavors no doubt. Almost poured it out.

330ml bottle served in a goblet glass. Enjoyed @ Craftissimo - the best craft brew bottle shop in Hong Kong! Thanks Ronny! A: Pours a deep amber color forming a medium and persistent tan head with lots of lingering lacings left in the glass. S: Nose is a must for rye beer lovers: It smells rye! :). Strong notes of toffee, caramel malts, pine, resin, grapefruit. T: Slightly sweet upfront. Rye, caramel malts, grapefruit, resin, pine, zest. Intense and persistent hop bitterness punch finish. M: Heavy body. Average carbonation. Rye, grapefruit, resin, pine, zest in the aftertaste. O: Good drinkability. Great Rye IIPA!

Bottle pour into pint glass from Globe Drug. Aroma is strong caramel with alcohol--similar to barleywine. Appearance is hazy orange-brown with off-white head, nice sparkle and trace lacing. Taste is strong caramel with alcohol. Palate is medium bodied with slippery texture, soft carbonation and pleasant warm feeling in the stomach and sweet fruity/floral alcohol finish. Bitterness is experienced in the back of the mouth/teeth rather than aroma/taste. Overall, I might doubt my rating a little since this is likely a little old (is there any other kind from Globe Drug?) but the consistency with other ratings tells me this is more on than off. A nice sipping beer--strong with copious caramel maltiness and the alcohol comes through, but in a nice way. But, with the balance toward the malty side rather than hoppy, this suggests to me that it was a bit old.
