I can tell this beer is full-bodied just by watching it pour. Aroma is hops and alcohol. Flavor is much the same. The sweetness is a bit cloying. Rye gives it a bit of a rough complexity. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2008 Poured a clean dark amber with a considerable head. Aroma is like a slightly subdued imperial IPA. It has all the standard sweet and citrus notes, but there is a little heartiness that is almost smokey. The flavor is something else. This attacks the palate, its oily bitterness clings while some of the rye flavor is hinted at. And still, wow, this beer attacks the palate long after each wonderful sip. csbosox (1087), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 25, 2006 In addition to the rye, this beer has a great, complex malty base. The hops are wonderfully abrasive, piney, earthy, and lingering. I can’t decide whether I like the simple malt billed DIPA’s that showcase the hops only, or a complex beer with a large hop aroma, flavor and bitterness (More of an american barleywine, this is 10% ABV). This is one of the of the latter camp. This is one I am glad I tried again after being unimpressed with it at GABF. Maybe it is tough to judge a beers merits in 1-2oz pours and after several beers as opposed to drink a 22 all by one’s self. probstk (1086), Nepean, Ontario, Canada

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Pours a clear copper brown with a medium beige head and some lacing. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, lemon and very floral. Flavor is grapefruit, pine, caramel, toffee, lemon and a nice rye backbone. Nicely bitter but not overdone. Resiny full body, chewy texture. Finishes a nice and long bittery goodness. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 29, 2007 bomber, picked up at Binny’s in Naperville last weekend. aroma is mostly grapefruit but had some grainy, malt notes as well. pours a clear dark amber with a creamy tan head and lacing which has lasted for at least ten minutes now. this is an in your face, I’m all about the hops kind of beer with some alcohol warmth on the back end! good stuff, but not your Grandpa’s idea of what a beer should taste like. chicagodri (1081), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 19, 2009 Tap. Pour brown with a thin off white head. Interesting aroma, citrus hops, but malt sweetness dominated this double IPA for me. Thicker body and not as much bitterness. Smooth though, not as big of a hoppy punch as I was looking for.
