| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 5, 2007 For the longest time, I’ve always held Bear Republics Hop Rod Rye as the watermark rye-based beer. This has surpased it. This is really a fantastic beer on every level and incredibly drinkable. Aroma is sweet malts, an incredible floral/citrusy show of hops and a good bit of alcohol. Appearance was a burnt reddish/orange color, nice two finger head. Mouthfeel was sticky without being cloying. Flavor was suprisingly sweet at first but then the hops kick in and then the golden raisins and rye kick in and everything just mingles on your tongue. Insanely drinkable for a DIPA. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 22, 2008 The color is a beautiful clear red-brown. The head is about medium and cream colored. Aroma is lemon and eucalyptus, and a hint of spice: cardamom and mace. The flavor is on the lemon end of the citrus spectrum. More eucalyptus, and a good amount of vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel. Overall, quite satisfying. I loved it. mcbackus (756), Merritt Island, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 9, 2007 bottle: pors a gorgeous deep red amber colour with a large off white head. aroma is lovely with hops galour featuring the scents of citrus, pine, and earthy. there is also a nice deep caramel malt and a touch of some sugary dark fruits. the flavour is dark fruit and burnt sugars with a nice bitter earth hop finish. also some of the rye. a very full flavour beer that is thick and chewy on the palate and leaves a bitterness on the roof of my mouth, that is welcome. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 21, 2007 Pours a clear but very dark amber with a sizeable tan head. Nose is highly hoppy. Strong resin tone with a bit of cotton candy I think. Fruity citrus edge as well. Flavor is definitely hopped, of course. Strong, stringent hop flavors kick you in the mouth, but not too abrasively really. It may be an over the tope type of ride, but it doesn’t go too over that top. Feel is bordering on a bit syrupy with all that stuff in there. Carbonation seems high with the massive head, but not a huge amount of bubble going over the tongue. Initially I was going to give a 4 on the drinkability on this one. But then I realized that the 10% alcohol on this one doesn’t peek out at all as you imbibe. Overall, this is nothing absolutely outstanding to behold, but it is very good all the same. Worth a try, especially for the price. robbmotiwalla (50), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
