4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at Underground Bluz. Pours a clear deep copper amber with a nicely-lacing frothy off-white head. Aroma is sweet and piney. There are notes of earthy caramel and complex butterscotch. Taste is initially very sweet caramel. But this turns quickly to a fresh, resinous bittering hoppiness and a sticky piney finish. The rye gives it a pleasant balance across the middle of the palate. Alcohol taste is subdued. Taste finishes with burnt toast after taste and long lingering bitterness. Texture like apricot juice. This beer was one of the most enjoyable beers I have ever had. Just beautiful in every way. I really did not expect to like this beer because I have enjoyed very few good rye-grained beers. But the rye in this style added to the complexity in a very complimentary fashion.

Clear copper with tan head. Boozy, grassy, some tropical aroma too. Lots of bitterness up front, grassy rye malt sweetness. Concentrated mango peach and pine in the finish. Enjoyable but not at all sessionable. This has to be the only drink of the evening (ok, maybe two).

Copper color, not much head nor much aroma. Great blend of hops and malt though. Some bitterness, then malty sweetness with a finish that is not bitter and doesnt linger.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours very hazy dark chestnut with a tightly foamed off-white head that sticks at a thick coating. Aroma is caramel malts, grains, some citrus. Taste is very, very sharp, dry and a bit cloying in the palate. Very rich and flavorful beer! A touch sweet to start and then boom! strong rye and bitter pine and grapefruit hop flavors roll along caramel malt backbone. Leaves you with a balance of bitterness and malt. Memorable for sure!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Enjoyable and drinkable Rye IPA. Decent aroma and pours a nice clear amber. Nice rye malt balanced well with the hops. Not overly boozy. Medium body, crisp, with a decent amount of bitterness and not overly carbonated. I’ll enjoy the four pack.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Decently balanced though I would’ve liked more spiciness from the supposed rye content.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Into a chilled mug, pours dark copper, with a small head. Nice lacing left on the mug. Unassuming aroma of pine, malts, citrus, alcohol...but taste is BIG, BOLD, and sweet at the front, with a beautiful dry, bitter, rye-hop romp amongst the pines twinge! The finish is bitter and superb. This is bold stuff, artfully blending the high alcohol content within the complexity of flavors - and pulling it all off with great balance. A considerable feat for such a high alcohol content, blurring the boundaries between double IPAs and Barley wines. An interesting, well done, and memorable brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark amber with a beige head cover, hanging curtains of lace. Strong aroma of malt and alcohol. Taste is full-bodied malt that adds hops and alcohol on the swallow, all moving smoothly to a finish that is heavy on the alcohol side. A big, bold brew, but almost outside the range of beer.

From a four pack, dark and foamy, good looking glass of beer. It’s bitter at first and a little sweet, it’s 10% and you can hardly tell until you are half way through the 3rd beer. Next thing you know you are looking up Lenny Bruce on the internet, learning about freedom of speech, and appreciating the right we have to say whatever we want. "Nothing is sadder than an aging hipster". I agree Lenny, I agree.

Very malty and peppery taste and aroma. Some piney hop balance, but definitely malt dominant and spicy. Almost has a barley wine feel with a bit less in the hops than other barley wines. Very well made beer, but I am not a huge rye fan. But still nice and very well made.
