4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Moriartys. Pitch black pour that started with a tight white head that mostly disappeared. Big swath of flavors. Coffee and chocolate definitely, but it?s the deep dark fruit that seems most prevalent. Blunt sour funk surrounding notes of dried blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Raisins, dates and prunes as well but, to me, the berry flavors are stronger. Some ash and spice as well. Thick body nearly coats the tongue. The bitters balance out the sugars. Big like a Stout, but style-wise very different. Feels like a chewy malt Port cordial.

Pours black out of bottle. No real head or lacing. Wow totally not what i was expecting. Has aroma of funk and cherry. Taste is sour cherry. I hate it and like it at the same time.

Dark black in color... Aroma of coffee, funk, tartness... Flavor is huge... Coffee, chocolate are extremely prevalent and balance the tartness... Amazing

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Treat after my first dose of radiation. Deep, dark, almost black but red, like super dark cherry juice. It also has a bit of a dark cherry nose, and at first sip I get some of it too. Quite fizzy. Tart to its core, this has quite a bit going on ... with hints of an almost gin-like sting. Funky, indeed! (#5425, 2/5/2014)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 12 oz bottle bottling date is 2/8/2013 into snifter. This was part of the holiday pack. Pours a dark brown color with maybe 1 finger head if you pour hard; head is dark khaki colored and leaves very little lacing. Aroma - dominant aroma is sourness and funk, underneath there’s a little chocolate. Taste is very sour (which I like) - sourness is very reminiscent of 100% cranberry juice, there’s a little sweetness, and some dark malt bitterness underneath as well as a bit of rye. If you lick your lips after a drink, you taste the sourness again and it lingers. Finish is quite long and tart. I like sours a lot, but this is very very sour and probably won’t be for everyone.

okay your going to think im nuts here but im going with rhubarb pie. this is more of a sour than anything. very tart. would have to say the pomegranate strong ale is definitely the beer that stands out of the beers this is mixed with. not a big fan of sours so i cant be fair in my rating. but it is what it is and i usually dont rate tart beers very well. this one is pretty good and you would never know this is over 9 percent,

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle (although once again labeled as a 22 oz.) poured into snifter. Pours opaque deep brown with a tinge of ruby coloring and a thin wisp of creamy tan head that quickly subsides. Aroma is sour plums and cherries with notes of wood and leather. Tart flavor up front that transitions nicely into the woody elements and a soy sauce finish. While there’s certainly a lot going on here in the flavor department, neither the sourness or the alcohol is overpowering. Another win from He’Brew.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle from the holiday pack. Pours Very Dark Brown, not much head. Nose is lemon, sweet doppelbockesque malt (why isn’t there a red squiggly line under that?), toffee, grapefruit, sourness. Flavour is very sweet and very sour, leathery, palate is heavy, this was pretty disgusting to me. It may be getting more sour as it ages. The heaviness sweetness and sourness do not blend well.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Hebrew 2013 Super Jewbulation Holiday package. Pours thick and turbid dark blackish with almost no khaki head Nose is very tart and lactic, with notes of cherry, berry, and oaty lactose. Tastes much sweeter than every tart or oud bruin I have ever had, and too sweet to be considered a strong ale. I don’t do this much, but I;m summarily Sommeliering thia into the sour red category, albeit on the sweet side. It works for me in that regard, and has welll hidden alcohol, with a sweet tart fruit presence.
