3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2013 Bottle dated 2/18/2013. Batch No. 2. Bottle neck label says "L’chaim sucka" so you know you are in for some fun. Pours deep dark brown with a dark kahki brown head. Smell is crazy. A combination of sour beer and chocolate, with something that reminds me if wine. Smells sweet with some citrus. Bit if the rye whiskey and oak on the nose, too. flavor is sweet up front with chocolate and lots of molasses. Fades into sweet black cherries and sour vinegar. Rye whiskey is present but it is not too boozy. Sweet lingering aftertaste on the palate. Like a slightly sour cherry cordial. Pretty heavy beer, with low-to-medium carbonation. Had no clue what to expect with this, but it actually turned out rather nicely. No single word to describe this. It is certainly funky. Share the bomber, just too much sweet for one.

22 mar 2013, bottle. Black. Nose is sour, bourbon aged barley wine. Med/full body and mildly fizzy. Serious alcohol, major bourbon, moderate sour, maple syrup, red fruit. Awesome.

2.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 2/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2013 The aroma is complex to say the least! Dark fruit, caramel, malts, cherries, - rich and inviting. Pours a soft black with a mostly diminishing dark tan head and lacing around the ring. The taste is very sweet. Cherries, prunes, vanilla, caramel. Medium to ful body with soft carbonation. Syrupy smooth mouthfeel. Overall, after the enticing aroma, I was disappointed by how overly sweet and syrupy this beer was.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Yay for Mendocino! Both coasts! Bomber from the Vacaville BevMo. From case No. 02! Yeah. Big whoops. Anyway... It pours like Guinness with a widget. Very dark brown with lots of little bubbles that collapse beneath a foamy dark tan head. The aroma is challenging. Like mustard? Plus a lot of dark malt, wood, dark fruit, whiskey. Full bodied. Flavor is very strange. Swear I get mustard, but that’s immediately followed by a cascade of different dark malt and woody/whisky flavors. You name it, it might be in here. Except for scotch. Not getting smoke. I even think there may be chocolate and coffee. This is really fantastically complicated. Super brilliant ale.

Oh my. . . I always knew I loved a funky jew, but I never fully appreciated it. . .
At first whiff, I paused and logged on to ratebeer. Clearly this is something huge.
Looks like motor oil doing a guiness impression.
Smells like cake, ice cream, hops, malt-- like a smorgasbord of beer desert.
Taste: Like a slow motion slap across the face-- a gentle, teasing slap, delivered at about .25 miles per hour.
First it’s sharp, roasty and very thick tasting-- beer milk shake consistency, which goes nicely with the aroma.
But then the taste blooms into some very sharp hop notes. Floral flavors dominate for a few seconds, before dissolving into an extremely sweet finish that develops for a good minute or so after swallowing, starting with melon and berry flavors that seem to dissolve into more subtle banana & butterscotch, until it all just vanishes like a few grains of cane sugar that dissolve on the tongue.
One of the most complex and interesting beers I’ve ever tasted.
Not high on drinkability, as it really does slap you around with every sip (and is almost 10%abv).
But for a taster, sipper, savorer-- especially on a cold day like today. . . absolutely top notch brew.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle - pours dark brown-black, huge, thick tan head, fairly lasting, with slight lacing. Big immediate sour notes on the nose, sour cherry and slight chocolate undertones. Taste is bright and big and lively. Very different than what the nose belies. Bright citrus notes, giving way to chocolate, then some oranges, finishes with a molasses berry note. Very unique. Medium-full bodied, long somewhat sticky finish. Crazy beer, funky fer shark.
