22 oz. bottle Batch 2, bottled on 2/18/2013. Dark, muddy brown black color with a small layer of white head without retention in the snifter. Aroma is interesting. Light funky berries, dull whiskey with wood barrel. The flavor get even better.
Flavor starts with black berries and slightly tart through the center of the sip. The tart berry is smoothed out by subtle whiskey and oak wood. The body is leaning on the full with a soft creamy texture. This flavor is really interesting and I had to read the label and the pomegranate now makes a lot of sense in the flavor. It is extremely easy to drink and I have to remind myself not to chug this like "Pom" juice aged in whiskey barrels. Overall, the layer of depth and complexity took my completely off guard. Jeez, this is nice.

22oz bottle; Batch 02/1492; Bottled 2/18/2013. Deepest, darkest brown color. Aroma of funk, attic notes, large amounts of dark fruits. Scents of raisins, tart esters, sugary malt. Smells like a sweet Quad. Bold sour taste. IDK if it’s supposed to be this tart. Flavor of vinous grapes & chocolate, dark fruit, fig, dates, pureéd raisins. Finishes with flavors of dark malts syrup, tastes of chocolate, hidden hops. Sticky mouthfeel. It’s gonna take me a while to finish off this sour bottle. Overall, chocolate balsamic. (4064)

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/18/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour cherry, green apple, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, oak, clove, red wine, vinegar, musty funk, leather, herbal, light vanilla, light bourbon, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky yeast, dark malt, and moderate bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour cherry, green apple, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, oak, clove, red wine, vinegar, musty funk, leather, herbal, light vanilla, light bourbon, and yeast/oak earthiness. Nice amount of fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour cherry, green apple, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, oak, clove, red wine, vinegar, musty funk, leather, herbal, light vanilla, light bourbon, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/funky yeast, dark malt, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome sweetness/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and moderately creamy/acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding sour strong ale! All around fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/funky yeast, dark malt, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Dark brown with a thick dense light tan head. Aroma of toffee, vanilla, oak, citrus, rye and fruity yeast esters. Flavor of bourbon, rye, oaky vanilla, fruity esters, cherries and mild cocoa. Medium to full body with a soft smooth mouth feel. Unique blend of beers with a great barrel character. I was hoping for more malt, because the alcohol was not well hidden.

Draft at the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton FL. Snifter pour. A rather dark, very hazy pour with thick fluffy white head. Head lasted awhile and some moderate lacing. Aroma was all over the place...bourbon barrel, rye, spices, fruits, leather, wood. The taste was similar and all over the place. I couldn’t really get more than serious barrel, rye, heavy malts, spices/herbs, and some fruit. I didn’t get the tartness some are referring to below. Not sure if i need this one again.

I think some of us who have tried this beer got one that just didn’t age well. I’ve seen a few reviews mentioning "sour cherry" and "very tart". I got one like you guys. It’s like drinking carbonated, unsweetened cherry juice. I love cherry juice, but with the beer aspects just barely in the background, it just doesn’t work for me. Oh well, it happens every once in a while.

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet bourbon, vanilla, pomegranate and rye aromas. Thick with hot caramel and pit fruit upfront turning to a warming chocolate and pomegranate finish.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma very oaky, touch sour, cherries. Tart, oak, malty but not very heavy. . . really enjoyable. Unusual but very good.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2014 Draft at Moriartys. Pitch black pour that started with a tight white head that mostly disappeared. Big swath of flavors. Coffee and chocolate definitely, but deep dark fruit seems most prevalent. Blunt sour funk surrounding notes of dried blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Raisins, dates and prunes as well but, to me, the berry flavors are stronger. Some ash and spice as well. Thick body nearly coats the tongue. The bitters balance out the sugars. Big like a Stout, but style-wise very different. Feels like a chewy malt Port cordial.
