Yay for Mendocino! Both coasts! Bomber from the Vacaville BevMo. From case No. 02! Yeah. Big whoops. Anyway... It pours like Guinness with a widget. Very dark brown with lots of little bubbles that collapse beneath a foamy dark tan head. The aroma is challenging. Like mustard? Plus a lot of dark malt, wood, dark fruit, whiskey. Full bodied. Flavor is very strange. Swear I get mustard, but that’s immediately followed by a cascade of different dark malt and woody/whisky flavors. You name it, it might be in here. Except for scotch. Not getting smoke. I even think there may be chocolate and coffee. This is really fantastically complicated. Super brilliant ale.

Very dark brown, almost black, with a khaki head. Sour, acetic, fruity nose. Currants, leather, oak, and green apple. Mild alcohol and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is tart and acetic as well. Big currant, raisin, green apple, and lemon. Leather, chocolate, oak, and balsamic. A touch boozy on the finish.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of prunes, bourbon, fig, toffee, rye and spice. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of prunes, bourbon, rye, oak and toffee with a smooth lingering dark fruit finish.

Pours dark brown with some white head. Nice sour cuvee taste, though way too sweet finish. Nice drinkability, to be shared.

Bottle from Hebrew 2013 Super Jewbulation Holiday package. Pours thick and turbid dark blackish with almost no khaki head Nose is very tart and lactic, with notes of cherry, berry, and oaty lactose. Tastes much sweeter than every tart or oud bruin I have ever had, and too sweet to be considered a strong ale. I don’t do this much, but I;m summarily Sommeliering thia into the sour red category, albeit on the sweet side. It works for me in that regard, and has welll hidden alcohol, with a sweet tart fruit presence.

Bottle shared with Mike and Tom. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown amber with a thin white head. Big funky sour fruit on the nose. Bourbon, vanilla and wood. Medium bodied, sweet and warm, bourbon and toast, none of the sourness from the nose carries over. Warm and fruity. Chewy tannins. Warm bourbon on the finish. Lingering bourbon and plums. Faintest hints of funkiness at the end. Wonder if this would get some more depth in year or two.

22oz bottle (release #8) pours with a nice dark body that supports a thin short lived mocha head. The aroma has big smooth bourbon booze notes that mix with a bourbon sweetened tart rye whiskey note as well as a light degree of sweet dark fruity esters in the background. The taste is similar as the sweet smooth bourbon tugs and pulls on the tart, almost red wine, barrel like rye whiskey notes. Between the big barrel notes I get pleasing yet too brief and mild sweet kettle caramelization and sweet dark fruity esters. This offers up lots and lots of barrel but the play between the sweet smooth bourbon and tart dry rye whiskey works.

Bottle:   Deep deep brown, dark brown hues, thin sudsy tannish head, spotty lacing.   Hmmm, slight Sour Red/Brown like funky sourness on the nose.   Sweet fruity sourness on the tongue.   This really is like a soft Sour Red/Brown.   I do not think this is what was intended at all.   Not sour per say, but very tart.   Underlying fruitiness, both light and dark.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Very light barrel aging on the finish.   Somewhat of a weird beer, a light Sour Red/Brown that seems barrel aged.   Four months old and it does this?   Strange...
