Bottle from the holiday pack. Pours Very Dark Brown, not much head. Nose is lemon, sweet doppelbockesque malt (why isn’t there a red squiggly line under that?), toffee, grapefruit, sourness. Flavour is very sweet and very sour, leathery, palate is heavy, this was pretty disgusting to me. It may be getting more sour as it ages. The heaviness sweetness and sourness do not blend well.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2013 Bottle dated 2/18/2013. Batch No. 2. Bottle neck label says "L’chaim sucka" so you know you are in for some fun. Pours deep dark brown with a dark kahki brown head. Smell is crazy. A combination of sour beer and chocolate, with something that reminds me if wine. Smells sweet with some citrus. Bit if the rye whiskey and oak on the nose, too. flavor is sweet up front with chocolate and lots of molasses. Fades into sweet black cherries and sour vinegar. Rye whiskey is present but it is not too boozy. Sweet lingering aftertaste on the palate. Like a slightly sour cherry cordial. Pretty heavy beer, with low-to-medium carbonation. Had no clue what to expect with this, but it actually turned out rather nicely. No single word to describe this. It is certainly funky. Share the bomber, just too much sweet for one.

Awesome stuff. On tap at Oblivion. Nose is big pomegranate, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, molasses, and chocolate/roast. This beer is almost chewy. Thick, black, motor oil pour. Taste follows up like the aroma. Big time red/dark fruits with plenty of chocolate and bourbon, some nuts, caramel, vanilla, and a touch of alcohol. Very rich. Great stuff.

Dark cola brown with a creamy cap floating on top. Prunes, a funk I’m not sure about, daaaaa the only thing I can think of is old urinal but that’s too harsh sounding. Taste the bourbon, taste the rye, the bourbon is better. So very sweet! Christmas spice is showing up now when warm. Thick and syrupy. Beer is not doing it for tonight, I’m sorry I’m really trying to like this beer but I’m not.

Danish pour at VA Wine Experience tasting. Pours dark brown. Funky dark fruit aroma. Taste is stone fruits, booze, roasted malts. Surprisingly drinkable.

(tap) clear dark brown colour with a small brown head; aromas of wet wood, dried fruit; rich, well balanced flavour with well hidden alcohol, very nice

22 oz bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot in Chicago, served in a stem glass. Pours deep chestnut with a small tan head that fades to a thin cover and leaves a trace of lace. On the nose, it is moderately sour with fruity notes, oak, molasses and caramel, along with Brettanomyces, vanilla, raisins and whiskey. The flavour is moderately sour, with funky Brettanomyces notes and sour fruits combined with oak, caramel, vanilla and whiskey barrel. It closes out with long, lingering notes of tart fruit, complex malts and whiskey barrel. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and average carbonation. Overall, a nice funky variant of a great barrel-aged blend. 2013-11-22

Surprisingly works! Nice sweetness. Some bourbony infusion. And funk on top, but in a complimentary way. This is the type of sour I like. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler from Beer Street, 03/23/2013. Suppose this must be batch 2. Pours dark brown, light tan head fades relatively quickly, nice lacing. Aroma is sour cherries, slightly vinous, light vanilla with chocolate undertones, dark rye bread and bourbon notes. Taste is vanilla dark toffee, caramel, sweet, with spicy bourbon notes, maybe a bit of hoppy bitterness, light fruity tartness tickling the tongue, choclatey vinegar finish which is a bit unconventional but works. Thick and chewy palate. Nice, the sour/funky notes are light overall and compliment the dark malty base very well.

750ml capped brown bottle from the brewery. Pours an opaque dark brown with no head. Medium-bodied with a slight molassas character. A lot going on, overall a sweet malty flavor balance. OKAY combination of so many beers’ flavors and aging environment.
