650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, beige head, with moderate lacing, over a clear, dark brown/black (SRM 40) body....nose is fruits including pomegranate, plum, raisin, brown sugar, hints of whiskey....taste is sweet with tones of molasses, pomegranate, plum, brown sugar, raisin, hints of coffee, cocoa, chocolate, light whiskey, vinous tones, finishing with light bitterness.....mouth feel thick, quite sticky, mildly astringent, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds light tingle. This is a rich, very sweet, complex, voluptuous beer, that is reminiscent of many dessert wines. It would not be good in a desert. The sweetness, although with many layers, dominates. This is not a beer for those who like dry, hoppy, clean finishing beers. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

Pours dark brown with some white head. Nice sour cuvee taste, though way too sweet finish. Nice drinkability, to be shared. Bottle from somewhere this year, in the USA.

Bottle: The aroma consists of cherries (sweet and lightly tart), light lemon, apple, cola, caramel, vanilla, fruit, and faint whiskey. It pours a dark brown with an orange glow around the edges of the glass. It has a one finger beige head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is minimal lacing. The flavor starts with quick dose of light chocolate and fruit. The finish has moderate-heavy sweet and tart cherry, a touch of lemon, apple, faint vanilla, a touch of whiskey/bourbon, and oak. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, I’m not sure this was intentional, but it comes across as a decent dark sour.

draft at Blue Monk. brownish ruby pour. lots of dark fruits, sour cherry, balsamic, tart berry notes. red wine like flavors, plus some fruity sweetness, jammy red wine and some tart/sourness. kind of boozy, slightly incohesive, still decent

650ml bottle into a Samuel Adams glass; served cool. Aroma: Moderately sour. Mild chocolate. Definitely funky. Appearance: Opaque dark brown body with a creamy tan head. Not great lacing. Taste: Pretty sour stuff. Tart and sour. That’s all I’m getting. It’s good, just super super sour. Palate: Medium-full body, low carbonation. Long, sour finish. Overall: Pretty nice. I wasn’t expecting it to be this sour, but it was a nice surprise. Good stuff.

Poured from 12 oz bottle bottling date is 2/8/2013 into snifter. This was part of the holiday pack. Pours a dark brown color with maybe 1 finger head if you pour hard; head is dark khaki colored and leaves very little lacing. Aroma - dominant aroma is sourness and funk, underneath there’s a little chocolate. Taste is very sour (which I like) - sourness is very reminiscent of 100% cranberry juice, there’s a little sweetness, and some dark malt bitterness underneath as well as a bit of rye. If you lick your lips after a drink, you taste the sourness again and it lingers. Finish is quite long and tart. I like sours a lot, but this is very very sour and probably won’t be for everyone.

Draft at the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton FL. Snifter pour. A rather dark, very hazy pour with thick fluffy white head. Head lasted awhile and some moderate lacing. Aroma was all over the place...bourbon barrel, rye, spices, fruits, leather, wood. The taste was similar and all over the place. I couldn’t really get more than serious barrel, rye, heavy malts, spices/herbs, and some fruit. I didn’t get the tartness some are referring to below. Not sure if i need this one again.

Bomber, cellared for about 1.5 years. Tart dark fruit aroma with some caramel, bourbon and a bit of rye. Pours dark brown with a thin light brown head with excellent lacing. Starts with rich dark fruit and caramel flavors. Finishes smooth with tart cherry flavor and a bit of vinegar. Good, but the finish is a little vinegary.

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of prunes, bourbon, fig, toffee, rye and spice. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of prunes, bourbon, rye, oak and toffee with a smooth lingering dark fruit finish.

22 oz bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot in Chicago, served in a stem glass. Pours deep chestnut with a small tan head that fades to a thin cover and leaves a trace of lace. On the nose, it is moderately sour with fruity notes, oak, molasses and caramel, along with Brettanomyces, vanilla, raisins and whiskey. The flavour is moderately sour, with funky Brettanomyces notes and sour fruits combined with oak, caramel, vanilla and whiskey barrel. It closes out with long, lingering notes of tart fruit, complex malts and whiskey barrel. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and average carbonation. Overall, a nice funky variant of a great barrel-aged blend. 2013-11-22
