Was not a big fan of this one...let it age about 8 months and it was WAY too sweet and syrupy. We had a bunch of people here trying different beers and everyone agreed. Boo

Looks nice, dark and viscous. Good head. Nose is a bit hard to pin down. Attack was very sweet, almost syrupy. Finish is wet and sweet. Not my thing.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Good sized light brown head of dense and creamy bubbles. Bit of wet oak in the aroma with lots of sweet and roasted malts, some dark fruit, butterscotch and a hint of bourbon. Aroma has a lot going on. Color is a very dark crimson brown. Flavor is overly sweet with some molasses, black cherries, more wet red oak, roasted malts and raisins. Usually like a bit of sweetness from HeBrew but this one is a bit excessive. Mild alcohol presence is hidden by the heavy malts. Kind of syrupy and flat in the mouth. Finises sweet and oily with a hint of tartness. Not one of my favorites from HeBrew.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber to snifter. Pours mahogany brown with an off white head that quickly reduces to a collar. Surprisingly vinous nose. Aha, the "funky" name makes sense. Taste is moderately sour up front followed by brown sugar, dark molasses, and agave nectar. Bitterness and a little wood hits the tongue at the very end. The sourness kind of throws me off; this isn’t as warm and inviting as I had expected. I was really hoping for more whiskey. If you reduced this, it would taste like an Asian food sauce.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Just too damn sweet...my eyes crossed. Actually, poured it down the drain and it spit it out! Rich cocoa, dark fruit, vanilla, oak, rye spiciness, brittle, caramel, toffee, and molasses. Nothing hoppy or bright to balance it out. Cloying...literally sticking to my palate. Had to drink a bottle of water to wash it down. Yuck.

Black with tan head. Malty aroma of whiskey and oak. Has an unexpectedly and outstanding sour flavor yet its also got the sweet molasses, dark fruit and toffee of a bourbon aged barley wine. Awesome and very unique flavor profile

Bottle. Pours near opaque with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is tart and acidic dark fruits (cherry, plum, date, raisin, prune), caramel and cookie malt, earthy hops and oak. Flavor is sweet, near syrupy malt, dark fruits, oak, bourbon, spicy rye, light hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
THOUGHTS: Wow. Almost too many flavors and aroma going on at first. This might have been the most complex thing (not just beer) I ever tasted. This beer was worth a thousand flavors. Hid alcohol incredibly well. I’d love to age some of this for a long time. You’d think all the flavors in the blend would blend together, but this really tasted like you were tasting at least six different beers.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was basically opaque black in the glass with a small, beige head that kept a thin sheet and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel, chocolate, chocolate syrup; hints of coffee; light citrus hops; grape; raisin; prune; dark and sour cherries; port; wood; butterscotch; slight vanilla; a little bourbon and whiskey; and other dark fruit. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly sour; while the finish was heavily sweet; moderately sour; lightly acidic; and slightly bitter with and average to long duration. There was bourbon, caramel, sour fruit, whiskey, rye, chocolate, coffee, citrus hops, sour rye, vanilla, a little roasted malt, prunes, raisin, dark sour cherry, toffee, butterscotch, and a little wood. The full body was creamy and then a little oily with soft carbonation and a slightly astringent and alcoholic finish.
