THOUGHTS: Wow. Almost too many flavors and aroma going on at first. This might have been the most complex thing (not just beer) I ever tasted. This beer was worth a thousand flavors. Hid alcohol incredibly well. I’d love to age some of this for a long time. You’d think all the flavors in the blend would blend together, but this really tasted like you were tasting at least six different beers. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was basically opaque black in the glass with a small, beige head that kept a thin sheet and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel, chocolate, chocolate syrup; hints of coffee; light citrus hops; grape; raisin; prune; dark and sour cherries; port; wood; butterscotch; slight vanilla; a little bourbon and whiskey; and other dark fruit. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly sour; while the finish was heavily sweet; moderately sour; lightly acidic; and slightly bitter with and average to long duration. There was bourbon, caramel, sour fruit, whiskey, rye, chocolate, coffee, citrus hops, sour rye, vanilla, a little roasted malt, prunes, raisin, dark sour cherry, toffee, butterscotch, and a little wood. The full body was creamy and then a little oily with soft carbonation and a slightly astringent and alcoholic finish.

Dark brown pour with medium sized tan head. Aroma of malts, molasses, vanilla, oak barrel, and fruit. Taste of malts, caramel, molasses, green grapes, vanilla, sour notes and a red wine presence. Lots going on in this beer, very enjoyable!

Tap at Freshcraft Denver - 02/06/12. Dark mahogony brown with tan head. Dark fruis on the nose, prunes, figs, dates allied to molasses and malts. Taste follows nose allied to being quite sweet but balanced by sour notes. Fairly full bodied and thick, minimal carbonation, very drinkable with a boozey finish.

A - Pours a dark brown-black color with a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate colored head. The head fades away fairly slowly leaving behind some lacing. S - Aroma is full of oak, vanilla, and Bourbon, with some rye, molasses, dark fruits, cherries, chocolate, and a bit of black licorice, hops, and booze. T - Starts off with sweet dark fruits with some raisin and sour cherries, with some chocolate, vanilla, and some black licorice. Through the middle, the Bourbon and oak comes through with some rye, molasses, and some more sour cherries. The finish is a mix of sour cherries and dark fruits, vanilla, oak, Bourbon, rye, with some molasses, chocolate, and a bit of booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and syrupy with a warming, sweet, and lightly sour finish. D - Very drinkable. Really interesting blend. Good bold and complex flavors with just the right amount of sourness.

Bottle. The pour was a murky dark brown almost black with a large (2-3 finger) light brown rocky head that reduced to a thick film with a medium collar and had excellent sheeting of lacing. The aroma was of a roasted chocolate malt and a sweet doughy yeast with notes of coffee, chocolate, toffee, dark fruit (Raisons and plums), bourbon cask and a touch of vanilla. The taste was rather malty and extremely sweet with hints of chocolate and toffee from the onset with the finish having notes of coffee, a big dark fruit sweetness and a lightly noticeable bourbon alcohol presence at the end. The flavor remained on the taste buds for a nice long while with a sweet fruity espresso taste left to linger. Mouthfeel was a few shades past medium in body and oily in texture with a nice soft carbonation. Overall a very well put together brew, although I found it to be just a tad to much on the sweet side...

Location: 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods-Columbus Circle, 8/18/12, Batch No. 1, Bottled on 3/6/12

Aroma: The nose has sour fruits, some whiskey, wine, funky yeast, a little bit of oak, and some earth
Appearance: It is a dark brown colored beer with a lasting brown-beige head and medium-heavy lace
Flavor: It’s lead by the fruity sweetness, which is balanced by the tart and sour flavors and the light earth hop
Palate: It has a fairly soft feel, with a medium-plus body, some syrupiness, and a lightly funky finish
Overall Impression: This one turned out to be a fairly complex beer. It is fairly heavy on the sweetness, but it still has enough tart funkiness to balance out the heavy sweetness. Overall, this one isn’t something that I’d probably want to drink all that regularly, but it quite interesting and certainly well worth trying.
