(bottle - 22 oz) Dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Overly sweet and boozy aroma with not much distinct that can be picked out. Flavor is pretty much the same. Way too sweet with tons of flavors that don’t really work well together. Not horrible but not for me. Way too much going on.

Bottle:   Deep brown, moderate light brown head, spotty lacing.   Overall sour dark pitted fruit on the nose, a bit of brown sugar and molasses, some faint woody notes.   Sweet up front, very sweet.   Oh boy... yeah, sweet sugary dark pitted fruit with a touch of sour cherry.   Seems a mish mash to me.   Getting more of a Bourbon flavor on the tongue than I did on the nose.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Sweet, almost syrupy finish.   Not all that pleasing to drink, a bit of a sweet dark pitted fruit mess.   Ugh... sometimes I shudder when drinking this one.   Over the top I would say.

22oz bottle. Large beige head atop cola black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, vinous/grape, light caramel. Taste is sweet, grape/wine, light bourbon/whiskey, caramel. Sticky medium-full body, low carbonation.

Bottle at a tasting at Paul’s. Pours a deep dark black with a thin tan head around the edges. Super sweet malt, a touch of wood and alcohol on the nose. Medium to thick bodied, very sweet and malty, syrupy, a good amount of malt. A bit too sweet, more caramel and burnt marshmallow than I’d like.

This falls into the "good, but not my thing" camp. It doesn’t help, I guess, that I sampled this in the heat of summer, too. Black, tan head. Smells very sweet, brown sugar and oak. Flavor is...kinda muddled, actually. Coffee, winey, cognac. Very heavy, too.

Bottle at Paul’s. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of sour malt, cocoa, rye, whiskey barrel, dark fruits, oak and vanilla. Lots of sour dark fruits but not overwhelming. Medium body. Solid but a little unbalanced at times.

Bottle at Paul’s. Aroma is rich of boisenberry, chocolate syrup, and whisky. Sweet and boozy flavor of marshmallow cream, bourbon, and some tart boisenberry. The touch of tart fruit is delicious with the silky chocolate. This doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I really like it!

Bomber. Poured very deep brown with a tall, well-retained, dense beige head.. looked great in the glass! The aroma picked up sour cherries upfront (totally unexpected), with vinous notes, toasty oak, nutty notes, and chocolate behind.. kept coming back to cherry skins and funk.. lots of stuff going on and it’s hard to know what to think about it.. intriguing, though. The flavor opened with tangy whiskey, vinous notes, and light pomegranate, with a mixed bag of malts behind (nutty notes, chocolate, and cherry meat).. fairly sour barrel and more cherries laced throughout.. dried out on the finish, carrying through tangy whiskey, oak, cherries, and toasty chocolate. Medium-bodied with smooth, rolling carbonation on the palate.. this flowed very well through the palate, with tanginess and funk hitting in all the right places.. this probably should’ve been a big mess, but it worked.

PRUNES! So many prunes. This beer smells like beer. Not prunes tho... until approximately all the time. Smells good. Like old people. mmmmm old people. And so dark. Not much cap. Not much else but "old people dump" dark. Old people dumps don't have any additional visual character other than reaking of "I've saved this in my bowels against my will for nearly 16 days". That's bad you say? Not in this case. This old people dump is pure "OHMYGODYES!". The same joy that's on the old persons face when they ripped this off. This delicious, prune and smoke based malty bum concoction. Mmmmmm. Let's go again! What did you eat, old person? Perhaps puzzle pieces. Cuz this is the missing piece of above average American strong goodness I've been looking for in my taste of ipa's. Thank you, old person. Thank you.
