3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours deep black with a small light tan head. Aroma is fruity and a bit tart, some cocoa and dark fruits along with some of the rye whiskey and oaky woody notes. Flavor starts both sweet and sour, some of the cocoa and sweet caramel but quickly picking up some tart and sharp fruitiness, that gives way to the woody and oak character. Finishes crisp and a bit sweet, some cherry and lingering funk. Medium to medium full body and a soft carbonation. I dig it

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2012 22oz bottle.
Brownish amber pour with some off-white head. Some funk on the nose with oak and roasted malt - expected more evidence of barrel aging. Flavor is sweet and slightly sour with dark fruit and roast.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
THOUGHTS: Wow. Almost too many flavors and aroma going on at first. This might have been the most complex thing (not just beer) I ever tasted. This beer was worth a thousand flavors. Hid alcohol incredibly well. I’d love to age some of this for a long time. You’d think all the flavors in the blend would blend together, but this really tasted like you were tasting at least six different beers.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was basically opaque black in the glass with a small, beige head that kept a thin sheet and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel, chocolate, chocolate syrup; hints of coffee; light citrus hops; grape; raisin; prune; dark and sour cherries; port; wood; butterscotch; slight vanilla; a little bourbon and whiskey; and other dark fruit. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly sour; while the finish was heavily sweet; moderately sour; lightly acidic; and slightly bitter with and average to long duration. There was bourbon, caramel, sour fruit, whiskey, rye, chocolate, coffee, citrus hops, sour rye, vanilla, a little roasted malt, prunes, raisin, dark sour cherry, toffee, butterscotch, and a little wood. The full body was creamy and then a little oily with soft carbonation and a slightly astringent and alcoholic finish.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a dark brown color with a reddish hint. Tan head lingers for a bit. Aroma is sour fruit, caramel malt, and bourbon. Taste is a very odd mix of flavors. Tastes like a sour beer mixed with bourbon and it doesn’t seem to mix well. Very boozy and sour at the same time. Finishes mostly smooth with some alcohol burn. I was excited to drink this but it’s pretty much a mess.

Pours a pitch dark black with slight brown hue, thin beige head. Smell is a bit sour, get some booze, some tart fruit. Taste is ripe dark fruits, a bit tart, rye whiskey, super sweet toffee, Chocolate. Palate starts creamy but ends a bit thin. Very interesting. I quite like it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Global Brew. Pours a dark opaque brown with a minimal light tan head. Aroma is earthy, fruity and grassy. Taste is sour, tart, dried dark fruit and the sweet caramel malt in the background trying to assert it self with the dominant sour. Also, and maybe this is the funky, there is a Belgian wild yeast funk to it as well, but that is good!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer was exactly what I expected. Extreme! The pour is a brilliant, murky ruby red with a thin tan head. Aromas were (deep breath); raisins, cherries, wood, vanilla, chocolate, whiskey, pomegranate, honey and some roasted malts in the end. Tasted great - very boozy and sweet with mainly notes of raisins, cherries, vanilla and alcohol. This heavy and sexy-complex beer only got sweeter as it warmed up... definitely a sipper.
