A: Aroma is full of lots of Bourbon, oak, and vanilla, with some earthy hop and a touch of caramel malt and dark fruit.
A: Poured a cloudy red-brown color with a thin finger of frothy light brown head. Head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lace.
T: Starts off with lots of Bourbon, oak, and vanilla with some earthy hops. Through the middle, more Bourbon flavor comes through with a bit of booze and some light malt, dark fruit, and bitterness. The finish is a mix of Bourbon, vanilla, oak, and some hop bitterness.
P: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming finish.
O: Pretty drinkable. Big Bourbon flavor, but the beer holds up fairly nicely with some nice hp flavor coming through.

Bomber, Bottled on 9/7/11. Sweet dark fruit aroma with some booze. Pours dark brown with some ruby coloring mixed in. Not much head or lacing. Strong dark fruit sweetness mixed in with some whiskey notes. Finishes very smooth with the dark fruit coating the tongue with just a hint of booze. Fantastic.

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is raisin malt, oak, and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with sweet raisin malt and caramel with light bitter finish. Good.

Bomber purchased 15 months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($11.99). Pours dark brown (almost black) with dark red highlights and two fingers of tan foam that reduces to a nice creamy layer. Aroma of dark toffee, rich caramel, some whiskey, and lots of dark sticky fruit (dates, figs, raisins). Flavor of thick rich toffee and caramel, big whiskey, candied dates, figs, chocolate, vanilla, raisins, port wine, pipe tobacco, and thick molasses. The dates and figs are certainly here and some grape-ness (raisins) as well, but I can’t really find the pomengranates. The big ABV makes itself known with quite a bit of hot booziness. Nice level of sweetness here that is tempered decently by the booze and saves it from becoming cloying. Despite the booze, it still finishes well with some lingering sweet fruity bourbon. The whiskey barrel and fruits come together really well in this one. Another readily quaffable high-ABV winner from Schmaltz/He’Brew! (131, 771)

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled 9/7/2011. Pours an extremely dark brown/almost black color; with a 1 finger foamy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a ring of lace and spotty bubbles that linger. Slight foamy lacing on the glass, but at 13.4%, this is expected. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, prune, fig, toast, toffee, grape, molasses, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, earth, leather, and light rye spiciness; slight alcohol as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of maltiness and barrel character. Taste of huge toffee, caramel, raisin, prune, fig, molasses, toast, oak, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, earth, tobacco, leather, and light rye spiciness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of toffee, toast, raisin, prune, fig, caramel, molasses, oak, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, leather, and light rye spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity of malty flavors with a great complimenting balance of the barrel character; with nearly zero cloying flavors noticed after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and fairly syrupy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Alcohol is insanely well hidden at 13.4% with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly fantastic barrel aged barleywine with fruit juices! The flavors from the fruit juices are not overpowering, and the malt complexity of the barelywine is highly complex. Very smooth to sip on as well for the gravity. An incredibly enjoyable offering.

22 oz. bottle served in a Deschutes tulip. Batch 001/791 cases. Bottled 9/7/2011.
A: Pours a very deep ruby with a frothy tan head about two fingers in height. The head recedes to a thin collar and doesn’t really leave on stick on the glass.
S: Dark fruits and sweet grape are most prevalent in the nose with just a touch of rye whiskey lingering in the background. There is some mild oak as well.
T: The first sip is a smooth, but very subdued, rye whiskey with a slight oakiness. There is a definite candied grape sweetness mixing with other dark fruits, but it is more on the sweet side. The backend is slightly warming with a little burnt sugar bitterness to cut the sweetness.
M: Full bodied with medium to low carbonation. Slick and oily feeling with a minute warming sensation after each sip.
O: The fruit juices used definite amp the flavor up a notch and the barrel aging added a nice little layer of flavor. The fruity sweetness might turn some people off, but it worked for me in this case.

16oz Growler from Beverage World. Just past 1 year old on the keg. Served at cellar temperature.
Pours dark brown with red highlights and a one finger tan head that recedes to just a light ring and leaves just a few spots of short-lived lacing behind.
Aroma starts with the Rye Whiskey and oak, then moves to a big blast of dark fruits, the figs and dates come through particularly well, the grapes and pomegranates are here, very rich smelling, very fruity, very strong and very good.
Flavor is even more rich and intense than the aroma. More about the dark fruits here. Tons and tons of dates and figs, strong notes of grapes and pomegranates, and the whiskey and oak come through in the middle to the finish. Somewhat sweet. Some people say they get soy sauce, but I don’t really get it...all about the dark fruits and whiskey barrels for me. There is some alcohol, but for over 13% ABV it is incredibly well-hidden.
Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied, somewhat sticky, low-ish carbonation, but at times still feels a little prickly.
Passed on the bottles last year, and really regret it now, but stoked to get a chance to try this on draft. This stuff is incredible, very rich, complex and delicious!

Bomber received in trade. Thank you Claspada. Pours very dark reddish brown with a mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet with sweet dark bread, caramel, whisky, rye flour, wood, vanilla fudge, figs, prunes, alcohol, toffee, lemon zest and hay. Taste is very sweet, malty and fruity with sweet dark bread, figs, prunes, alcohol, whisky, roasted coconut, burnt caramel, toffee, wood, raisins and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and malty with sweet dark bread, figs, prunes, dark cherries, wood, roasted coconut and caramel. Quite nice...

(Bottle) Pours dark mahogany brown with nougat coloured head. The aroma holds fruit, caramel, sugar, resinous hops, alcohol and wood shop/barrel. The flavour is medium sweet, medium to heavily bitter and tiny acidic with notes of wood, resin, caramel and fruits. The mouthfeel is sticky, round and light astringent with a light carbonation. Lingering aggressive finish. Near full bodied.
