UPDATED: JUL 29, 2012 Pours a very dark brown and amber color with a nice tan head that lingers a bit. Aroma is an abundance of caramel malt and bourbon mixed with figs, citrus and lots of other dark and light fruit. Taste is what you would expect. Big bourbon and sweet caramel malt at first that is quickly mellowed by a strong bitterness and fruit. Finish is mostly smooth and it leaves a nice sweet bourbon taste on the tongue. Only a very slight alcohol burn. I wish the bourbon was just a tad more subtle in this but its still very good.

A - Poured a cloudy red-brown color with a thin finger of frothy light brown head. Head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lace. S - Aroma is full of lots of Bourbon, oak, and vanilla, with some earthy hop and a touch of caramel malt and dark fruit. T - Starts off with lots of Bourbon, oak, and vanilla with some earthy hops. Through the middle, more Bourbon flavor comes through with a bit of booze and some light malt, dark fruit, and bitterness. The finish is a mix of Bourbon, vanilla, oak, and some hop bitterness. M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a warming finish. D - Pretty drinkable. Big Bourbon flavor, but the beer holds up fairly nicely with some nice hp flavor coming through. Serving type: bottle

Location: 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods - Columbus Circle, 6/26/12
Aroma: The nose has some dark fruits/raisin, alcohol, wood, and sweet caramel malts
Appearance: Pours a murky looking reddish-brown color, a light brown head, and a mild lace
Flavor: The taste is sweet and hot, lots of overripe fruit, heavy boozy, with some oak and caramel
Palate: It is full bodied, with a thick, sticky texture, and some mid-heavy heat that leads to a long, hot finish
Overall Impression:
This is one is fairly sweet and fairly hot. It is also pretty intense. You can really feel the 13.4%, as well as the big malty punch from the over-ripe fruits and the sweet caramel. Those two components were the key components of this one. I’d like to see how this one ages, it’s still pretty huge at this point.
