COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
15 Years and the bombastic beers blossom bolder than ever. The shtick ages so beautifully as well – some favorites from the Shmaltz vault: FIGS: “And their eyes were opened, and they knew that they were naked; they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.” -Genesis 3:7. POMEGRANATES: In Medieval images of a unicorn hunt, the captured beast bleeds from wounds of pomegranate seeds dripping blood red juices on his milk white body. Wild and uncontrollable by nature, unicorns could be tamed only by virgins. Once tamed, the unicorn was chained to a pomegranate tree. DATES: Song of Solomon 7:6: “How beautiful and delightful you are, my Love, with all your charms! Your stature is like a date palm tree, and your breasts like its clusters. I will climb the tree and take hold of its fruit stalks.” Psalm 92:12: “The righteous shall flourish like the Date palm.” Arab proverb: It is good to know the truth, but it is better to speak of palm trees. GRAPES: “Oh, when I was a kid in show business I was poor. I used to go to orgies to eat the grapes.” -Rodney Dangerfield. Genesis Chapter 15 promises many battles but also sacred covenants. Verse 15: “You, Abraham shall be gathered into the arms of your people and pass at a ripe old age.” To the torrents and the trials, the punchlines and the pleasures. To 15 Years of Shmaltz Life – and beyond – L’Chaim! Jeremy Cowan, proprietor

Draught, Avenue Pub. Very dark brown. Not much head. Burly molasses and sweet malt aroma combines impy and barley wine. Both oily and inky. Rich chocolate, intense molasses and dark sugar. Rich. Dark prunes, plums. Only a little bit of alcohol and not too sweet in the finish. Good brew, very intense. Plays to He’Brew’s strengths I think.

Pours clear mahogany with 2-finger tan head. Nose is huge astringent hops, vienna malt, figgy fruit, blackberry, port, plum, prune, cacao. Tastes rich, thick, oily, with a heavy oaky blackstrap molassesy malt bill, heavy dark fruit, including figs, plum, prune, blackberry, cacao, nuts. Gets hot late, and acquires a strong prune juicy base flavor, which detracts from the holistic experience somewhat.

Bomber. Poured medium-deep brown with a short, tight-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up figs, raisins, dates, molasses, and a hit of dulce du leche, with sweet whiskey and a touch of black pepper around.. plenty of sweet sugars in there, and this could probably be interpreted 400 different ways. The flavor was sweet again, with dates, raisins, and very tasty rye whiskey leading.. spicy and a tad bitter on the edges, with warm, peppery alcohol, grainy oak, and earthy notes.. more grainy and spicy barrel character over a whole bunch of sugars on the long, decadent finish. Heavier-bodied with rolling carbonation on the palate.. the barrel did just about enough to cut through the huge sweetness.. the sweets held the boozage in check.. overall an excellent brew!
