4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle, Batch 1/791 Cases, Bottled on 9/7/2011.
5 malts, 7 hops; Aged in Sazerac 6yr Rye Whiskey Barrels. Pours reddish-brown mahogany color, light tan foam. Heavy legs. Smells of heavy malt syrup, loads of sugar in the nose. There is also a good amount of booze in the nose as well. Fig, date, sugar, vanilla, alcohol aromas. Sweet flavor, there is a presence of fruit sugars like no other. Loads of chocolate malt, date, dark fruit, Whiskey barrel fruitiness. Date and fig is there! So is the barrel, a good amount of burn. Nice chocolate malt finish coats the palate after the burn has dissipated. Goes down like pure malt syrup with dark fruit puree. Very heavy bodied. It is hard to believe that there this is really a beer, as the distant cousin to the American Light Lagers(*sarcasm). Genesis 15:15, Heaven in a bottle.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap @ The BeerMongers... A dark brownish pour with a thin head. Lots of whiskey and wood character. So much so that with glass far from me on the table I could still detect the aroma. Some rye spice, vanilla extract sweetness, and dark fruits with a nice buttering finish. Toasted toffee flavors and mild hop presence.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a biege head. Dark sweet sugars, prune, toffee, raisin, a bit of pomegranate, and a little boozy. Decent, a rich beer, but a little too sweet.

Shared with my brothers in richmond when whalen came back! Beautiful dark brown pour with not much head. For such the alcohol content, it was very well hidden, and this was a fresh bottle! I can only imagine how this will mellow quite nicely as it ages. Such a deep rich dark fruit profile. Definitely figs and dates, with a large does of vanilla and of course a nice booziness. Very tasty brew indeed.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at the Bistro -Bal Aged Fest. Very dark brown with a small tan head. The aroma is big on whiskey with toffee and caramel and some fruits. Sweet caramel and toffee with whiskey and good dark fruits - figs and dates. Fairly full body, a bit syrupy, with average carbonation. Nice beer but did not stand out among others at the fest.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location: 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods - Columbus Circle, 6/26/12
Aroma: The nose has some dark fruits/raisin, alcohol, wood, and sweet caramel malts
Appearance: Pours a murky looking reddish-brown color, a light brown head, and a mild lace
Flavor: The taste is sweet and hot, lots of overripe fruit, heavy boozy, with some oak and caramel
Palate: It is full bodied, with a thick, sticky texture, and some mid-heavy heat that leads to a long, hot finish
This is one is fairly sweet and fairly hot. It is also pretty intense. You can really feel the 13.4%, as well as the big malty punch from the over-ripe fruits and the sweet caramel. Those two components were the key components of this one. I’d like to see how this one ages, it’s still pretty huge at this point.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at Sugar Maple. I must say THIS IS AWESOME! The beer pours to a deep mahogany body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is sweet and caramelized. Has a sherry like quality of an old barleywine. But that’s likely just caused by the combination of the 4 fruits that they used in it. The flavors are super caramelized sugars with sherry and vanilla. Lots of subtle complex things going on from the fruits. The palate is sweet and full bodied with a super thick syrupy texture. It somehow astonishingly hides the 13.4%.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap @ Freshcraft on Halloween night. Clear dark brownish with copper highlights. Nice lasting head. Great sweet aroma of nutty chocolate, dark fig sweetness, a slight boozy note, and general dark malty fruity sweetness and warmth. Beautiful flavor of chocolate covered fig, raisin, restrained yet warming boozy notes, dark fruity malt, more chocolate. Very pleasant and delightful. Strong yet quaffable.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a very deep but clear amber with a moderate tan head that lasted beyond mid-glass and left a coating of foam with each sip. Huge aroma of vanilla, caramel, figs, and dates. The flavor is equally impressive again with huge vanilla, caramel, oak, figs, and dates. Holy crap! Rich and full bodied with a luxurious mouthfeel. Some mild alcohol warmth at the finish only enhances the experience. Definitely sweet, which is perfectly fine for me. I am planning on picking up a few more of these to put away in my cellar. Wow.
