This is the new recipe replacing the original He’Brew Genesis ale. Balanced between a West Coast style pale and amber ale with just enough malt sweetness to highlight a flurry of hop aroma and flavor. Witness the evolution of our original creation.

Aroma: Light grapefruit; very slight Myrcene from the Simcoe (I’m guessing) with a touch of crackery malt. Appearance: Light copper pour, leaving a film of sticky white head. Flavor: Grapefruit is balanced by crackery malts; a touch of Myrcene rounds things out. Palate: Light body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Middle of the road for me, just seemed muted and understated.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Bottle says 5.5% A: Pours a hazy dark copper color. The head is a two finger yellow shade. While it fades to one finger relatively rapidly, at that point the head retains itself quite well. S: There’s a decent amount of piny, weed-like dankness juxtaposing touches of grapefruit. Malts definitely come through with prevalent caramel and toffee. Not my preferred style of pale ale, but definitely acceptable. T: At first, there are wisps of dank weed backing a sweet-ish malt backbone, while the finish is mostly mild, pleasant grapefruit. Bitterness is well restrained. It kind of lacks flavor, to be honest. But there’s no one element that turns me away, either: it’s fairly harmonious and balanced. M: This is where this brew succeeds. It’s light-feeling, crisp, and goes down quite easy. The low carbonation actually works because the finish has a good dryness to it. O: Not overly interesting, but pleasant enough. I don’t really see how it’s a session ale at 5.5%. Not a bad beer, and not one I’d ever turn down; doubt I’d buy it for myself again, though.

Bottle 355ml. Pours amber with medium light-beige head. Good lacing. Aroma is of citrus, pine, caramel. Taste is of citrus, pine, malt, caramel, bitterness. Palate: Light-medium body. Medium-high carbonation. Ok balance. Overall: Good. Would be a tad too much on caramel, but a sharp bitterness kinda succeed to balance it. Is 5,6% sessionnable? Would have to drink a couple to know... Anyways, good hybrid.

Smells like honey thin cream head. Brown in color lots of floaters which I'm told is protein breakout. Taste is malt light hops little sour. Mouthfeel is surprisingly watery. Overall not great. There's no date on the bottle but my guess is this is old.

Bottle from Whole Foods Plymouth. Pours clear medium copper with off-white head that laces well. Nose is caramel malt, hops, mild funk and florals. Tastes hoppy, crisp, with caramel malt, some late florals, and a finishing dryness with pineapple and grapefruit.

Drank from bottle so no info on appareance. Malty (toasty) aroma with some citrus/piney hops, but not too present. Taste starts bready and caramel malts, end with some hops, citrus, grapefruit, piney but not too much. Starts malty sweet and ends with a light hop bitterness. Bit dry and moderate carbonation. Nice, but not that hoppy, though I didn’t care about that.

Aroma of floral hops. Note of juniper. The taste is somewhat bitter. Palate is strong bodied. Interesting beer, certainly worth trying.

12 ounce bottle. A nice thick beige head has good retention. Thick sticky lacing. The beer is opaque and red brown. Citrus, caramel, and yeast in the aroma. This is earthy but also smooth. Citrus hops but with rich malts and heavy yeast flavors. The amber comes through in this. This offers 3 way balance with the yeast, hops, and malt. I would have like more hops. Imminently drinkable.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Tasted on 12/12/13 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at Craft Brewed. Pours clear burnt orange with an average white head that slowly recedes to average, bubbly lace. The nose has a nicely balanced aroma of light caramel malt, bread, and plenty of floral and grassy hops. The flavor is more focused on the citrus and grassy hops bitterness with the same malt character from the nose providing balance. The body is light with lively carbonation, and a medium balanced finish.
