COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the book of Exodus, the ancient Hebrews survived 400 years of bondage before the ultimate supreme court dropped the 10 deadly Plagues on the land of the taskmasters and the head dictator, Pharaoh. Even then, only begrudgingly, did he Let My People Go. The freedom ride across, nay through the sea left a band of wandering nomads broke and suffering, no doubt with a profound hunger – and a mighty thirst. Enter the Manna: a glorious gift to nourish body and soul. Manna was said to combine the tastes of everything most delicious to each individual, depending on their desire. And as the Good Book says, Each shall gather according to one’s need and shall enjoy a double portion for thine chosen day of rest. Manna fed the entire tribe, but tradition suggests the righteous received manna ground in a heavenly mill, while the wicked had to grind it below for themselves. Hear o’ Tribe of Shmaltz – Behold: A celebration of the flower of the craft beer revolution! A golden opportunity to feed your inner hop head and rejoice in HOP MANNA, our newest delicacy of the modern He’brew Beer family. L’Chaim! Dry Hopped with Centennial, Cascade and Citra (Centennial and Cascade in Batch 4).

From the Shmaltz Brewing Company, this is the He’Brew Hop Manna IPA. Limited release in 22oz bottles, I was fairly excited to try this little guy. The label states that Hop Manna is dry hopped with Centennial Cascade and Citra hops, checking in at 65 IBUs and 6.8% abv. The Hop Manna pours a great straw-golden color, with quite a bit of fluffy off-white foam. There is a ton of carbonation rising from the bottom of my Unibroue-brand tulip glass. As usual, there’s a long story on the side of the label in tiny print that I don’t dare try to read after I start drinking. The nose is full of brightly floral hops, bitter at the core, but mostly floral and citrusy in nature. On the palate, this is much more subtle than some of the other IPAs I’ve been trying lately. The hops are definitely present, but not nearly as rough and bitter as others. The alcohol isn’t even noticeable, it’s seamlessly blended in behind the hops. The finish is not super-long lasting, but it does linger for a few minutes. Soft, smooth, flavorful, and quite drinkable. I like the Hop Manna!

Craft beer tasting dinner at the Brownstone, round four: Clear light copper, nice foamy white head slowly settles. Fruity citrus floral hop aroma. Citrus floral herbal hop taste, pine resin, caramel malts and some spiciness. Pretty strong and dense. Soft carbonation, medium-full bodied, aggressively hopped. Closer to imperial status. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys) Complimented nicely with butter chicken and rice with cranberry and date chutney. (you can really taste the chutney!)

This seems more like an imperial IPA despite limited alcohol. It is slightly lighter than most DIPA but has more heft than many IPA’s. Enormous aroma and hop flavor with restrained bitterness. Very pretty and refreshing.

Cloudy amber beer, goods cream coloured head. Palate is softish and a little airy. Mild fine carbonation. Nice soft creamy malt base. Good hops - rich tangerine and orange, mild marmalade. Whisper of aniseed. Finishes soft and creamy with mellow hop bitterness. A mellow and luxuriant IPA - very nice indeed!

Worth trying if you see it around. Very sweet subtle ipa, almost more like an apa. Its defining thing to me, is that is has a sweet melon taste, almost like one of those melon vanilla ice cream things. I havent encountered that taste in any other ipas. However, it falls short of greatness because it just seems to be thin across the board.

Bottle:   Amber with a slight copper hue, moderate to large frothy off-white head, very nice lacing.   Looks great!   Somewhat of a dull hop aroma, but moreso an old bread or stale wheaty bread aroma.   Not exactly what I want to smell in my IPA.   Similar tongue, dull hop but moreso this musty stale bread like flavor.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Oh boy, this was pretty much a waste.   I was expecting so much more as some of their anniversary releases are so tasty, but this IPA is just well below the standard.   Little hop aspect, but a lot of stale/musty/moldy bread.   A let down...

This is a staple IPA, so good. Solid citrus and really nice body. Floral, orange juice taste. Looks a little dark for how it taste, but who cares?
