66 cl bottle @ home, bought late 2009 in Pasadena, CA. Clear, deep dark red-brown color. Beige head, quickly receding. Aroma’s: sweet, sugar, red fruit, caramel/toffee, burnt sugar, alcoholic. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted, raisins, dark toffee. Strong alcohol feel. Medium to full bodied, sticky mouthfeel. Finishes slightly dry, a bit woody, lightly bitter.

Hello. This beauty has aged wonderfully!!! Cracked it open after losing my passport and having it found at a beer bar. Dark brown color, light brown head. Rich malty, off sweet nose shows figs, milk chocolate, caramel, molasses, raspberries and rye bread. The mouth is superb, as the flavors have really melded well and shows great depth of fig, caramel and milk chocolate. Very rich, but never too sweet or cloying. Warming lingering fig finish. I loved this beer. Definitely a good winter warmer!!!.

Really nice, really rich beer. Some caramel, some alcohol, some dark fruit, licorice. Pours deep, dark brown with a thick head. One of the best anniversaries by Hebrew,

In short: A brown malt orgy that is not too boozy. Surprisingly nice sipper
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed with some age on it (2 years?) because I rarely felt like drinking a 13% beer by Hebrew
The look: Cloudy very dark brown body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose is an overload of malts with rich toffee, pastry, hazelnuts, chocolate and more. When cold the beer doesn’t emanate too much booze so the aroma is rather inviting for the sweet malty beer lover. Taste is just about every calorific malt related flavor… toffee, chocolate cake, grandma’s date squares, crusty sugar pie, roasted hazelnuts, burnt caramel and certainly other stuff. And then tobacco leafs and some other flavors probably related to the hops. Surprisingly the alcohol keeps a relatively low profile. For a gimmicky beer (13 kind of malts, 13 kind of hops and 13% abv) I thought this beer was surprisingly cohesive. I’m not a fan of monster sippers but I found this one to be above average, a beer like this would certainly score above 4.0 on ratebeer if from a hyped brewery. Good sipper here, I feared it would be a train wreck and I was pleasantly surprised. When putting my thoughts together to write this rating I realized I actually liked this beer more than I thought I would, I often surprise myself with my ratings, sometimes I start to write a sentence and I don’t even know how it is going to guacamole.

This is a BIG beer. Huge aroma of charred malts, big roast, burnt brown sugar, maple, and scorched grains. Thick boy, soft carb, very bitter finish, with a huge dose of more burnt, scorched ingredients. Some subtle pine, grassy hops, lots of herbs. 13% seems a little high, i’ll bet a la southern tier, this 13 is probably more like 8-9%.

Backlog purge. On tap at 515 in Santa Cruz. Basically exactly what you’d expect from all the ingredients -- a muddled, sweetish, hoppyish, boozyish beer. Tea, caramel, alcohol, chocolate, dark fruit, grapefruit, resin. All thrown together at random. Not terrible but it doesn’t resonate with me.

12oz bottle, although it looked like it was an ounce or so short, part of the 2011 Holiday set. Pours a deep, brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is boozy, malty, nutty. A little heavy on the palate with light carbonation. Flavor is sweet, nutty, malty, caramel, boozy, with a light bitter finish. Just ok.

Very deep dark red-brown beer. Just about transparent. No real head. Mild but unfortunate paint tones on the nose. Smooth soft palate, semi dry. Rich dark malt, not bitter or roasty. Semi sweet chocolate and mild coffee and a little cream. A dash of Port Wine and another hint of paint. Not getting much hop. Hides the abv well. Quite light all round and a good flavour that would be very good sans the paint.
