COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How could we hope to top last year’s Jewbelation Sweet 16 with its cupcakes, unicorns, & Satan’s Ferrari birthday cake? massive challenge. So for Year 17, we threw in a whole new dimension to our shtick – we built our very own brewery! After 17 years of contract brewing, our first Shmaltz Clifton Park batch emerged 17 months after the first draft of the business plan. Coincidence? Renaissance means “Re-birth” in French & Italian. In Buddhism, the concept does not truly translate as “reincarnation” but instead as “becoming,” or a “stream of consciousness.” 11 syllables structure a haiku. Shakespeare penned 17 comedies. In The Simpsons episode “Duffness” Homer sings “When I was 17″ about buying his first beer with a fake I.D. “I drank some very good beer. I stayed up listening to Queen, When I was 17.” In The Office, Dwight recites Rule 17 that all Schrute boys must learn: “Don’t turn your back on bears, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.” Knowledge and growth come in many forms. It is taught that Nirvana is only attained when the soul transcends cycles of rebirth. Looks like Shmaftz just isn’t there yet. So with 17 malts, 17 hops, and 17% abv,JEWBEL4TIONREBORNserves as another mark of our death as a contract brewer and proof of our conversion to a new life as brewery owner…… L’Chaim!!!

22oz bottle 6/19/14 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-50° in Snifter-Pours dark brown with a nice sized tan head. Aroma of dried fruits, malt, toffee, chocolate, and caramel. Taste of caramel, malt, dried fruit, and sweetness. This full bodied brew has a lot going on but it is well balanced and goes down smooth. I still don’t know how Shmaltz hides the ABV so well. This beer ROCKS #3200 Rating

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with tan head. Aroma is bready malts, alcohol spice, plums, raisins, faint floral notes, and some caramel. Flavor is chewy malt base, booze, dark fruit and caramel sweetness, and light woody bitterness; dry finish. Medium/full body and medium carbonation.

From a bomber. Pours cola brown with a bubbly beige head. Tastes super smooth, strong, alcohol, raisin, malt. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like strong raisin, malt, and booze.

Bottle shared by sonnycheeba. Pours a dark cola with tan head. Aroma of dark fruit with definite hints of booze. Taste of the darkest fruits with the booze still there and a bit of caramel.

$9 bomber may just be the best price per alcohol volume in all of beer(said with absolutely zero thought behind the statement) 17% by my damn self. Poured cold as dark brown and nice creamy tan head. Smell initially cold is big dark booze soaked fruits, rich caramel, biscuit, cocoa. Taste is somewhat harsh cold with thick booze and considerable hop punch but overwhelmed by the alcohol soaked dark fruits, heavy caramel, licorice. As it warms all flavors and booze all are enhanced. Like it but 22 ozs solo is going to be tough.

Complex multilayered aroma. I’m getting traces of cinnamon, starfruit, roasty malt, very light hops, overall sweetness. No booze at all detected in the smell, surprising for 17% ABV. I love the aroma of this beer. Smells more like a Belgian ale than an American Strong Ale. Striking dark brown color with thin off white foam. Tastes like booze, spice and black licorice with some hop bitterness at the end. I don’t mind a little heat in my stronger beers, and this one certainly brings that, but I was expecting it. Palate is smooth, and it has a huge aftertaste that might not ever go away. This beer tastes and feels like drinking whiskey. Definitely not for the faint of heart. I would like to try an aged bottle of this.

TheGB (506) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAY 21, 2014
Light aroma of spice and malt. Taste is malty and quite spicy, but quite tasty and complex. Palate is quite nice for the ABV, yes it is hot, but it’s 17% ABV so you’d have to expect that.

NeuroPliny (143) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 9, 2014
Poured from a 750 cc bottle shared with JB. Poured into a stem glass. Black with minimal quickly fading head. Aroma is raisin, fig, brown sugar, molasses, and roasted malts. Flavour is roasted malts, dark dried fruit, spice, and subtle hops. Perhaps a bit sickly sweet for my liking. Minimal carbonation. Medium to full body.

Bottle from Legacy Liquors, Vancouver
The color is almost black, with medium sized head. Mild aroma of dark caramel, roasted malt, light chocolate, bread. Full bodied; caramelly, moderately sweet, very boozy, bread, raisins, light liquorice; too strong alcohol perception. Pungent final (strong bitterness and alcohol).
Chaotic booze.

glennmastrange (2240) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 25, 2014
Bottle. Heavy toasted and nutty for the malt, moderate perfume and burnt orange peel for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with raisin, prune, tawny port, toffee and alcohol. Head is small, frothy, light brown with slippery lacing and good legs and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts heavily to harshly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, syrupy, with a carbonation between soft and lively, and finishes metalic, lightly astringent and harshly alcoholic. This American Strong Ale is somewhat harsh in spots, but it’s complex and super rich.
