COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How could we hope to top last year’s Jewbelation Sweet 16 with its cupcakes, unicorns, & Satan’s Ferrari birthday cake? massive challenge. So for Year 17, we threw in a whole new dimension to our shtick – we built our very own brewery! After 17 years of contract brewing, our first Shmaltz Clifton Park batch emerged 17 months after the first draft of the business plan. Coincidence? Renaissance means “Re-birth” in French & Italian. In Buddhism, the concept does not truly translate as “reincarnation” but instead as “becoming,” or a “stream of consciousness.” 11 syllables structure a haiku. Shakespeare penned 17 comedies. In The Simpsons episode “Duffness” Homer sings “When I was 17″ about buying his first beer with a fake I.D. “I drank some very good beer. I stayed up listening to Queen, When I was 17.” In The Office, Dwight recites Rule 17 that all Schrute boys must learn: “Don’t turn your back on bears, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.” Knowledge and growth come in many forms. It is taught that Nirvana is only attained when the soul transcends cycles of rebirth. Looks like Shmaftz just isn’t there yet. So with 17 malts, 17 hops, and 17% abv,JEWBEL4TIONREBORNserves as another mark of our death as a contract brewer and proof of our conversion to a new life as brewery owner…… L’Chaim!!!

Draft. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Super rich and sweet, with dark fruits, toffee, rum cake, and caramel. Maybe a bit too sweet, but it works.

17%!! Kept it in the fridge for a couple of weeks trying to decide between big night and sharing. Found a re-usable cap and split over two nights. Still had a nice head on day two. Kind of wonder at the merits of a 16th hop or malt ingredient but it is fun to celebrate 17 years. Strong beer but smooth. Hops are muted by thick malt. Strong licorice-molasses taste and bitterness. A nice drink.

NikkTwist (2549) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 13, 2013
Draft at Moriartys. Opaque black pour with a fair amount of khaki foam. Lace. Creamy dark chocolate with hazelnuts. Cherry cordials. Substantial malt flavors. Big and smooth but not may notes. The aroma feels mostly blank. The high alcohol becomes noticeable halfway through. The combo feels like a muted creamy stout that is hiding enough of its alcohol to be way to easy to drink. Good, but could be tweaked in more interesting directions.

This beer is a very dark reddish brown that, although it is clear, you still cannot really see through it, and the head is large and brown. The aroma blends booze, raisins, roasted malts, caramel malts, and more booze. The taste has a strong umami flavor with a hint of sourness and a slightly higher amount of bitterness on the front end. The mouthfeel has an oily texture indicative of the booze, which is also seen through the waming finish, alongside a full body and a soft carbonation.

Poured from the bomber into my 10 oz tulip. Aroma shows some alcohol, but not much. Flavor does show the alcohol, some caramel and roast. Lots of oak? Palate is extremely dry! Thin head with no lacing. Overall a pretty good strong ale.

22oz bomber pours with a very dark body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malts, molasses, dates and figs along with a vague blending of hops in the background that have a citrus gummy bear to black licorice sensation. The taste begins with malts, molasses sweetened dark roasted malts, slivers of burnt malts, toffee and chocolate. This then leads into sweet dark fruity esters midway and into the finish providing yet another facet to the experience. This is a nice sipper where the huge abv is noticeable but restrained for 17%. Overall this seems it needs some time to better integrate.
