COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How could we hope to top last year’s Jewbelation Sweet 16 with its cupcakes, unicorns, & Satan’s Ferrari birthday cake? massive challenge. So for Year 17, we threw in a whole new dimension to our shtick – we built our very own brewery! After 17 years of contract brewing, our first Shmaltz Clifton Park batch emerged 17 months after the first draft of the business plan. Coincidence? Renaissance means “Re-birth” in French & Italian. In Buddhism, the concept does not truly translate as “reincarnation” but instead as “becoming,” or a “stream of consciousness.” 11 syllables structure a haiku. Shakespeare penned 17 comedies. In The Simpsons episode “Duffness” Homer sings “When I was 17″ about buying his first beer with a fake I.D. “I drank some very good beer. I stayed up listening to Queen, When I was 17.” In The Office, Dwight recites Rule 17 that all Schrute boys must learn: “Don’t turn your back on bears, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.” Knowledge and growth come in many forms. It is taught that Nirvana is only attained when the soul transcends cycles of rebirth. Looks like Shmaftz just isn’t there yet. So with 17 malts, 17 hops, and 17% abv,JEWBEL4TIONREBORNserves as another mark of our death as a contract brewer and proof of our conversion to a new life as brewery owner…… L’Chaim!!!

EtTuCthulhu (1033) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - NOV 20, 2013
This beer is a very dark reddish brown that, although it is clear, you still cannot really see through it, and the head is large and brown. The aroma blends booze, raisins, roasted malts, caramel malts, and more booze. The taste has a strong umami flavor with a hint of sourness and a slightly higher amount of bitterness on the front end. The mouthfeel has an oily texture indicative of the booze, which is also seen through the waming finish, alongside a full body and a soft carbonation.

Poured from the bomber into my 10 oz tulip. Aroma shows some alcohol, but not much. Flavor does show the alcohol, some caramel and roast. Lots of oak? Palate is extremely dry! Thin head with no lacing. Overall a pretty good strong ale.

22oz bomber pours with a very dark body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malts, molasses, dates and figs along with a vague blending of hops in the background that have a citrus gummy bear to black licorice sensation. The taste begins with malts, molasses sweetened dark roasted malts, slivers of burnt malts, toffee and chocolate. This then leads into sweet dark fruity esters midway and into the finish providing yet another facet to the experience. This is a nice sipper where the huge abv is noticeable but restrained for 17%. Overall this seems it needs some time to better integrate.

Poured from bottle into tulip from 53F cellar. Pours a very dark color, almost black, with light tan head. Head dissipates fairly quickly but never goes completely away. There is no lacing to speak of. Aroma - alcohol, dark red fruits, malt, a bit of milk chocolate. Taste - good grief there’s a lot in there. Very complex, moderately bitter coffee flavor, followed by dark dried fruits, raisins, and dark cocoa. Alcohol is apparent with a light warming burn at the back of the throat. Finish is quite long and somewhat bitter. Carbonation level is average, but a bit spiky on the tongue. It has a full, oily mouth feel. This is a big complex beer and nice on a very cold day.

Bottle from the holiday mix pack. This is the strongest beer I’ve drunk to date. Pours clear brown, beige head. Nose is toffee/molasses, some roast, slight alcohol, nondescript hops. Flavour is same, mainly toffee/treacle, lots of nuts, the booziness isn’t too bad really, I’ve had beers with a third the abv with more alcohol presence than this. Could be that you’re just expecting it here. Sticky. Yeah a nice sipper.

Light aroma of spice and malt. Taste is malty and quite spicy, but quite tasty and complex. Palate is quite nice for the ABV, yes it is hot, but it’s 17% ABV so you’d have to expect that.

From a bomber. Pours cola brown with a bubbly beige head. Tastes super smooth, strong, alcohol, raisin, malt. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like strong raisin, malt, and booze.
