COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How could we hope to top last year’s Jewbelation Sweet 16 with its cupcakes, unicorns, & Satan’s Ferrari birthday cake? massive challenge. So for Year 17, we threw in a whole new dimension to our shtick – we built our very own brewery! After 17 years of contract brewing, our first Shmaltz Clifton Park batch emerged 17 months after the first draft of the business plan. Coincidence? Renaissance means “Re-birth” in French & Italian. In Buddhism, the concept does not truly translate as “reincarnation” but instead as “becoming,” or a “stream of consciousness.” 11 syllables structure a haiku. Shakespeare penned 17 comedies. In The Simpsons episode “Duffness” Homer sings “When I was 17″ about buying his first beer with a fake I.D. “I drank some very good beer. I stayed up listening to Queen, When I was 17.” In The Office, Dwight recites Rule 17 that all Schrute boys must learn: “Don’t turn your back on bears, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.” Knowledge and growth come in many forms. It is taught that Nirvana is only attained when the soul transcends cycles of rebirth. Looks like Shmaftz just isn’t there yet. So with 17 malts, 17 hops, and 17% abv,JEWBEL4TIONREBORNserves as another mark of our death as a contract brewer and proof of our conversion to a new life as brewery owner…… L’Chaim!!!

It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of rich caramel toffee with roasted malts and some cotton candy. The taste was of dark brown sugar, roasted malts, hops and a hint of earth. Very tasty.

Bottle to glass. Dark Brown pour with a medium thick khaki head. Nose is huge roasted malt, really sweet, faint booziness. Taste is sweet malt and chocolate. Figs, raisin, boozy finish. For 17%, it is definitely hidden.

nearbeer (3813) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - NOV 27, 2013
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2013 650 ml. Opaque black with a lasting film of brown sugar foam. Nose is dark chocolate, soy sauce, tobacco, bread dough and a hint of merlot. Taste is lightly soured dark chocolate, oat, soy sauce, and dark rum. Finish has wheat and molasses with some touches of tobacco, wood and rum. To the sweet side but has enough balance to not become overly sticky. Heavy body is mostly smooth with a small tingle of carbonation and alcohol warmth, though it is surprisingly well masked for 17%.

Draft to snifter. Looks good; a dark cola with khaki lacing. Smells and tastes solid; malty and boozy with a bit of dark fruit. Decent on the palate. A little hot out of the gate, but enjoyable.

On tap, pours a deep black, almost no head and thin lacing. Huge alcohol, red wine, dark sugar nose. Warm, alcohol rich attack, sweet rich finish. This is a big beer. Duh.

22 oz bottle shared with the group. Pours a dark cola brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, herbal notes, wood, the alcohol is noticeable, but not quite to the 17% that it is. I wonder how this will age?
