COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
How could we hope to top last year’s Jewbelation Sweet 16 with its cupcakes, unicorns, & Satan’s Ferrari birthday cake? massive challenge. So for Year 17, we threw in a whole new dimension to our shtick – we built our very own brewery! After 17 years of contract brewing, our first Shmaltz Clifton Park batch emerged 17 months after the first draft of the business plan. Coincidence? Renaissance means “Re-birth” in French & Italian. In Buddhism, the concept does not truly translate as “reincarnation” but instead as “becoming,” or a “stream of consciousness.” 11 syllables structure a haiku. Shakespeare penned 17 comedies. In The Simpsons episode “Duffness” Homer sings “When I was 17″ about buying his first beer with a fake I.D. “I drank some very good beer. I stayed up listening to Queen, When I was 17.” In The Office, Dwight recites Rule 17 that all Schrute boys must learn: “Don’t turn your back on bears, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.” Knowledge and growth come in many forms. It is taught that Nirvana is only attained when the soul transcends cycles of rebirth. Looks like Shmaftz just isn’t there yet. So with 17 malts, 17 hops, and 17% abv,JEWBEL4TIONREBORNserves as another mark of our death as a contract brewer and proof of our conversion to a new life as brewery owner…… L’Chaim!!!

nearbeer (3816) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - NOV 27, 2013
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2013 650 ml. Opaque black with a lasting film of brown sugar foam. Nose is dark chocolate, soy sauce, tobacco, bread dough and a hint of merlot. Taste is lightly soured dark chocolate, oat, soy sauce, and dark rum. Finish has wheat and molasses with some touches of tobacco, wood and rum. To the sweet side but has enough balance to not become overly sticky. Heavy body is mostly smooth with a small tingle of carbonation and alcohol warmth, though it is surprisingly well masked for 17%.

glennmastrange (2311) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - APR 25, 2014
Bottle. Heavy toasted and nutty for the malt, moderate perfume and burnt orange peel for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with raisin, prune, tawny port, toffee and alcohol. Head is small, frothy, light brown with slippery lacing and good legs and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts heavily to harshly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic, and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, syrupy, with a carbonation between soft and lively, and finishes metalic, lightly astringent and harshly alcoholic. This American Strong Ale is somewhat harsh in spots, but it’s complex and super rich.

Pailhead (5037) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - NOV 23, 2013
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate cherry, chocolate, molasses, grape, fruit, and alcohol. It pours a dark brown with an orange glow around the edges of the glass. It has a small tan head that quickly fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, molasses, and caramel. The finish has moderate roast, light coffee, nuts, alcohol, raisin, and a hint of metal. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, it’s not nearly as sweet as the past few anniversary beers...and that’s a good thing. 12oz bottles in the gift pack are at least a start in the right direction compared to the 22oz bottles I’m still seeing.

ABUSEDGOAT (2416) - California, USA - NOV 27, 2013
Blackish pour, smallish head, some lace/retention. Aroma is licorice, chocolate, caramel, touch of darker fruit. Full bodied, alcohol hidden well, sweet, slightly syrupy. A big malt bomb with really well hidden alcohol.

The aroma is vinuous, soy sauce, cereal grains, boozy. Really odd. The color is deep brown black, light tan head. The flavor is soy sauce, spicy, very boozy. The finish is booze burn, spicy, lots going on. Weird. Too much going on in this beer really. Medium thick in body, oily mouthfeel. I’ve loved the jewbelation experience, but maybe it’s come to an end.
