2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pour is a super thick black with a very small tan head. Aroma is super sweet with some chocolate, vanilla, anise and booze. Flavor is super hot with alcohol. Some of the chocolate malt shine past the booze but the alcohol takes over. This is a real heavy mouthfeel with a ton of alcohol presence. Iím glad I only got a 12 oz bottle b/c there is no way I am going to finish this. Iím done with this series.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
8 ounce sample on tap at City Beer Hall Tavern in Davis, CA. The aroma is sweet and sugary with molasses and brown sugar notes. Slightly vinous nose as well. Ethanol is pretty well hidden. Pretty straight-forward aroma, though. Opaque black body with a creamy, light brown head and really nice lacing. Attractive beer. Starts sweet, sugary with some lightly burnt, roasted malts. Leather and tobacco flavors make a significant appearance in the middle. Becomes sweet, chewy, and sticky towards the end. Finishes with a boozy character. This is basically a mess of a beer that is rather cloying, and pretty much what I expected from this beer, given the breweryís pedigree.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
It pours jet black with an immediately healthy, medium-brown head that quickly settles to nothingness, even though carbonation maintains while it sits in the glass... and the only reason you can see this is from the carbonation that surfaces at the top edge of the glass. Its aroma is nothing spectacular, but itís nice and you really canít smell any of that 16% alcohol at all. Sweet, dark, caramel malts and light hints of roasted and chocolate malts dominate the nose.
The flavor is also much tamer than I imagined. Itís a pretty soft, warm, and almost creamy beer (mind you, please drink this somewhere between cellar and room temperature). The alcohol really doesnít show up until this finish. In the meanwhile, you just think youíre drinking a stout/strong ale hybrid. To be honest, itís not a strong ale at all... face it, Sweet Sixteen, your an imperial stout. There is a flavor that is hard to put my finger on the more I think about it (or the more my tongue becomes acclimated to whatís in my mouth), and I think that flavor is a result of the alcohol. Itís not an alcohol flavor, but the alcohol does something to the ingredients that turns them a bit on their heads, resulting in an almost bitter, spicy flavor.
The most unfortunate thing about this beer is that its taste requires you to drink a great amount of it, often, to enjoy it, but its strength and heaviness hits your stomach like motor oil... and the alcohol is merciless. Itís quick to knock you out. This beer is truly deceiving to the point that it seems like a confused beer. You should be sipping this from a small snifter, but if you did that, your palate wouldnít be satisfied at all. If you stick to this, youíll enjoy its effects on your bloodstream but not on your palate. If you drink this quickly in large quantities, your palate will be satisfied, but youíll be hammered. In conclusion, this beer is best consumed if youíre prepared to be hammered. So, Iíd say this beer lives up to itís name... simply, a sweet 16% ABV beer. That is all.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
California Edition. Bottle from Vendome North Hollywood.
Pours a beautiful DEEP Red-Black with a super bubbly dark brown-ish head. Aroma is dark fruit, licorice, vanilla, alcohol/booze, bread, chocolate. If I had to name a food that it smells like, dark chocolate brownie. Taste is boozey and alcoholic, fruity (raisins), sweet, cocoa; complex with an interesting hop character, grassy, herbal; bitter dark chocolate and coffee finish. Real strong taste; itís a sipper. No lacing; lots of carbonation. Oily mouth feel. Really interesting; I like it. It reminds me a lot of BrewDogís Tokyo.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle 11/30/12 (Binnyís Downers Grove)-41į in Snifter-Pours a dark brown almost black with a small one finger tan head. Aroma of bubblegum, dark fruit, cotton candy, malt, and hops. Taste of sweetness, malt, caramel, toffee, dried fruit, and alcohol. This full bodied brew is well balanced and quite tasty but I think IMO still a bit hot. Will buy one to age and see if it mellows but still was expecting more head at this ABV and I am amazed at how they hide this so well.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours very dark brown/black with a temporary, nearly chocolate, tan head. Aroma runs toward treacle and dark fruits. Quite full bodied. It has carb. Flavor is chocolate, then dark fruit, then moving on to chocolate and dark malt. Heat sneaks in once in awhile, but itís not obnoxious. Much less heat than expected. Certainly not dry, but the sweetness is much more restrained than many barleywines. I think thereís bitter in the finish, but whether from burnt malt or hop? Itís fairly refined, and pretty tasty.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Black with a fizzy white head. Interesting aroma of dough, chocolate, cinnamon, brown sugar, and hazelnut. Tastes of hot cinnamon, hazelnut, bitter dark chocolate, brown sugar, and yeast/dough with a rough, slightly sharp acetone finish. Thick sticky sugary palate.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black with tiny tan head. Aroma is booze, chocolate malt, coffee, dark fruit, apples, a whole lot going on here. Taking a sip the first thing you notice is the oily texture, the boozy burn hits shortly thereafter, but its filled with sweet chocolate malts and dark fruit flavors. Very thick but it fits, low carbonation. This beer is fantastic, I canít believe its 8 bucks a bomber. Iím really impressed.
