Portion of a 22 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. A: Pours a very dark brown color - one would think it was an imperial stout given the look. The head is a one finger mocha shade. I’m really impressed how well it retains itself for 16%, too. Not much lacing, as expected. S: There is a lot of chocolate, licorice, and plum qualities exhibited on the nose. In general it’s a fruity aroma, perhaps a bit weak (due to the fact I served it relatively cold) yet not remotely boozy. T: The initial flavor is very plummy. Strong dark fruits and chocolate go into the midtaste, and it finishes with a bit of spicy hoppiness and booze. I’m amazed how boozy this isn’t - blindfold me and I’d swear it was around the 9-10% range. Rather, it’s the sweetness that becomes a problem. After 10 oz. this one got too cloying for me. M: It isn’t as thick as one would expect, but it certainly lingers on the palate in sweet, syrupy fashion. While I can complain about all the sweetness, I can NOT complain about the prevalence of alcohol; the person I was drinking it with claimed he could honest-to-god chug it. O: Sure, it gets too cloying after half a bottle. Sure, it’s devoid of sophistication, refinement, and elegance. But when you consider that this is an extreme beer that’s drinkable, non-boozy, AND inexpensive (for what it is), all those problems kind of fly out the window. I wouldn’t have regretted buying a second bottle of this to age for a year of two, either. This one is best shared with 2-3 people.

Pours super dark brown with no head after seconds and no lacing. Nose is espresso and molasses. Notes of dates, molasses espresso. Tastes are very heavy sweet and medium bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Body is oily and sticky.

Bottle sampled at Kurt’s Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Chocolate malt nose with notes of raisin and booze. Malty and chocolatey flavor with roast and dankness before a roasty finish.

heavy duty beer best consumed as an aperitif. heavy flavours of dark fruit especially fig and prune. goes down thick with coffee and molasses as the stand out flavours and almost ends up tasting like licorice all sorts. -- "another notch in the bar post."

Bomber. Ruby dark brown with a brown head. Quite sweet with some plum, prune, sweet and roasted malt, caramelized figs with some balsalmic vinegar. Mild carbonation, full body, lots going on but surprisingly its pretty tasty without completely overwhelming the sense.

This was OK... Very sweet and very malty. I couldn’t find the hops in this at all. Also it has a little alcohol aftertaste which could be expected at this percentage. Way too sweet for my liking. The palate, appearance and aroma were all well done, but the taste is where it fails.

This starts with a faint boozy aroma, and pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. Very sweet flavor, with lots of dark fruit. The hops and bitterness don’t come out until the end, and the alcohol is well hidden, with just a touch of burn in the finish. Very slick on the palate, very little carbonation noticeable. Not bad, but not one that I’ll be going out of my way to get again.

apple cider, milk chocolate, and alcohol aromas. dark gold head over impenetrable dark. real slippery in the mouth. the molasses sweetness nor the roast malt cant disguise the alcohol, which, along with the distant hop edge, provides a little balance. I will carefully drink this monster & stay home tonight.

Holy big beer batman. Pours inky black with a small beige head. Aroma is raisin, chocolate, roasted malts, alcohol. Taste is astringent alcohol with fig, chocolate, roasted malts. Just a big mashup. This has to end some time yes? I love these beers but it’s becoming more muddled.
