This is an alright beer for what it is. Aroma was nice. Strong and thick. dark chocolate, licorice, and burnt wood. The thickness of the aroma told me that this was a hefty beer. Pour was a deep dark black with a one finger tan head. Taste was huge. Extremely malty at first sip. Strong burnt caramel, licorice, plum and dark toffee. Some coffee notes came out as it warmed. The bitterness came out in the finish, balancing out the onslaught of sweetness from the malts. Moderate alcohol burn, this beer didnít apologize for itís high ABV. It flaunted it. Surprisingly good carbonation for such a big beer. Glad to try it, but seems like it is a little jumbled.

This is like a big soup of tastes and smells. Lots of licorice and toffee with slight coffee and chocolate tones. You can tell that they used 16 malts. Is hoppy without being over the top. The malts and hops really compliment each other. Would live to drink another. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark murky motor oil colour with a short lived beige head. The aroma is sweet, dark fruits, chocolate, toffee, anise, cherries. The flavour is sweet, toffee, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malts, alcohol, cherries. Syrupy mouth feel. A ridiculous beer, every tasting note seems cranked to 11.

Bottle at home. Pours opaque black with a medium, bubbly tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast, caramel, nutty, and cookie malt, light spicy and peppery alcohol, earthy, citrus, and herbal hops with dates, figs, prunes, and raisins. Flavor is sweet malt, candied dark fruits, light hops and medium-light bitterness, peppers, spicy alcohol, and a sweet, lingering finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Bottle shared at 2014 oscars party - pours pitch black with thick sustaining tan head. Nose is primarily of booze and malt. Taste is very warming blend of booze, malt, figs, and dates. Definite 16% alcohol. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Large format bottle, split with friends. Very good sipping beer, and surprisingly drinkable given the high ABV.

Draft in Seattle. Dark sitting lack, long head. Huce alc and treacle, dark soy, brown sugar. Quite smooth and sweet for what it is. Glad it has settled some. Really not bad, nice even.

22oz bottle ("California Edition") picked up at Bevmo
Pours black with a small dark tan head and some lacing. Aroma of dark malts, caramel, piney and hot alcohols. The taste is sweet caramel, roasted malts, roast coffee, milk chocolate and hot alcohols, bitter finish
This is decent. Iíve had it for about a year and it is still pretty hot and bitter.
